How will the French respond to Martina Hingis?

I know it's still about 3 months away but I'm excited at this prospect. When Martina goes back to Roland Garros, how will they respond?

It's been 5 years since the last time she played there.

I remember Martina used to look miserable playing there in 2000-01. They gave her so much trouble still.

I really hope she's treated as a sentimental favourite.

Thoughts?

Funny though. I was thinking this myself. Wonder what the reaction will be like? There's bound to be some booing from the crowd when she walks on court, but I think it will be mickey-taking to begin with. What happens later will be interesting when Hingis gets further into the tournament (it's hard to see why she shouldn't do well the way she playing and the way most of the others are too).

And when she knocks Momo out the competition!

Nothing as unpredictable as a French Open crowd, but I think they will support her this time. During her first career she was perceived as gifted but cocky and arrogant, and for some strange reason they had a problem with that. I don't know if they have changed their minds about that, but now she's also the great player from the past fighting against all odds to make her mark again, and it looks like she's succeeding. And since she's been away for so long, people are realizing what they have missed. I think this time Martina will be a sentimental fave, and most will root for her as long as she doesn't play Mauresmo.

yeah i agree with you

it also seems Martina is now more relax and mature than before ,she doesn t seem to be the little girl who used to cry everytime the things didn t go in her way.....and the french crowd will see that.

They'll applaud for her but after a few wins I'm sure they'll be back to their ornery selves.

The woods are hopeless. Don't waste your time, they will be destroyed. So will the marsh. It is a losing game mankind has played for more than a century. Sadness is what you are, do not deny it. The universe is a lonely place, a painful place. This is what we can share between us, period.

Well, if you're right I hope those boos will set a new world record for loudness. Actually, it would be a dream come true to see Martina in her speech after the final take the microphone with one hand, raise her middle finger of the other hand and shout out:"In your face you motherfuckers!!!!!!!!"

I dont think they will be especially appreciative that she is back, probably just get on her back the minute she looks at a line twice.

The next big thing: Voegele
