Davenport vs. Sharapova vs. Hingis

Who wins on Roland Garros clay?

Maria Sharpova or Lindsay Davenport or Martina Hingis?

1. Davenport def. Sharapova
2. Hingis def. Sharapova
3. Hingis def. Davenport

Supporting:

Sharapova will have big problems with both players, we've already seen her get demolished by Hingis once this year (on a court that should favour Sharapova, easier for Martina on clay) and I don't think Davenport would be any easier.

Davenport against Hingis though... I'm not so sure. Wasn't it Lindsay who came up with the 'blue-prints' on how to beat Martina back in the late 90's? Their head-to-head record is pretty level now. I guess none of that matters now though. Davenport is older and Hingis I believe has improved and this will begin to show more over the coming months. The clay would favor martina too.

So I go for:

Hingis df. Sharapova
Davenport df. Sharapova
Hingis df. Davenport

Hingis would demolish the other two on clay.
I think Linds would beat Maria. Neither has great mov't, but Lindsay has more game.

Clay is Maria's worst surface. But her only loss to Lindsay came on hard. On clay it would be a toss-up, with Maria having the 3-1 advantage in H2H

Clay would give Hingis a big advantage, but don't expect Maria to be as easy meat for the Hingis next time. Maria had never played hingis before and was unprepared.

Yes, but remember that Maria's wins came on grass, carpet and indoor hard. Grass and carpet are WAY faster than clay, and I don't think their head to head would actually be a very good barometer to judge the match on.

I think Hingis would beat both, and I think Lindsay would beat Sharapova. Whilst Lindsay's and Maria's games are based primarily around big serves and penetrating, flat groundstrokes, Lindsay has a more complete game, and that would work to her advantage.

My thoughts:

Hingis def. Sharapova in any surface
Lindsay def. Sharapova
Lindsay def. Hingis
