When did Bovina win a tier 1? I remember her winning New Haven. She is a great player to me......I would say Hantuchova is the worst to win one. But everyone has to be good to win a tier 1.

Tier I's rarely have fluke winners. If anything, I would say Iva Majoli when she won Charleston a few years back over Schnyder. Not to say Iva was not a great tennis player, but at that time, she was in a massive decline and had no right to be winning a Tier I title.

yeah because it would make sense for her to be in a massive decline if that was the case

she won Charleston in 2001, Roland Garros in '97. She was lowest ranked players ever to win a tier I - around 60 or so. Patty was ranked in the 40s at the time.

She played a great tournament but she was kind of fortunate because from memory she beat Testud and Coetzer on route to the final, whereas Patty beat Pierce, Mauresmo, Serena (the year she lost 3 matches), and Capriati (as number 1). She was done when the final came.

and it's wrong to use the "worst" when it come to winning these titles because that word has pretty negative connotations and none of the players who won them are poor players.

Daniela's lack of backing it up probably puts her at the bottom but ironically it probably made more waves than most.

Bovina hasn't won a tier I from my memory New Haven wasn't tier I when she one it i'm pretty sure - she beat Dechy in the final.
