Word on the street: Tatiana Panova was banned for doping in 2003

at the 25K challenger in Tampa last month, i overheard two coaches discussing the Karantcheva situation and one of them mentioned that Panova had gotten a six-month ban in 2003 for a positive steroids test that was never made public by the WTA.

Would make sense as she last played

Berlin 2003 (May 2003)

and then came back at an ITF challenger in December 2003.

But I think she was geniunely injured.

I've never heard a good explanation for what happened.
This is as plausible as anything else.

But it's still TOTAL speculation.

Interesting...

In the period from January to April 2006 Dr. Skalny sent very detailed messages to Ms Sharapova [...]: “Mildronate 1-2 X 10, repeat in 2 wks (before training or competition)”; “1 hr before competition, 2 pills of Mildronate”; “During games of special importance, you can increase your Mildronate dose to 3-4 pills (1 hr before the match). However, it is necessary to consult me on all these matters (please call)”; “30 minutes prior to a training session: Mildronat – 1 Capsule. 30-45 minutes prior to a tournament Mildronat 2 capsules”.

i thought she left the tour for a while because she had some mental problem.

i guess this is plausible.

OK. I mean I can understand if she did.
She did lose to Navi in 2002 as a top 25 player.
I mean Navritilova is one of the greatest women players of all time but the bitch is old. Very old.
She looks like a turtle on court.
Anyway, it is a painful loss, not one you can just play your way out of.
Panova was incredibly fit at time and lost to someone almost 20 years older than her.
I would probably take something too.

I don't think so. In the past i've mentioned being suspicious about the reasons given for Panova's absence, but i seriously doubt that professional coaches on the WTA Tour are getting their information off of this board.

Losing to a player who is almost 50 years old is mental disease.
Luckily in the case of Castano, she is taking medication to supress it.

If it wasn't at the French Open the backyeard of L'equipe , Sesil would have been "injured" for 5-6 months.

But anyways, talking about Tatiana like that is not nice cause there's no evidence. I mean, even if you're sure 99% it's true, just keep it for yourself.
