Will Roland Garros seedings...

reflect the Italian Open's points?

Also who will be 1 seed at the Italian, Venus or Jen, and lastly is there any chance of Monica reaching #4 before RG? Thanks

i suppose monica will have to try her best to win rome, picking up a few bonus points along the way from venus and jenn, in order to get seed 4 at Roland Garros

But i dont think a top 4 seeding does that much, all top 10 players can do damage to anyother top 10 player, i think.

Good luck monica

Cool Seeding

I think a top four seeding helps a lot. If nothing else than allowing a player not to have to spend too much mental/psychological energy against a top competitor. There's a big difference in playing Venus, Jennifer, Hingis or Serena for example in the round of 16 vs. in the quarters or semis. A player wants time to work out any kinks or problems with her game or recuperate from a tight/difficult/draining match. Against a top player on any surface you have to be ready from the get go or else.

They will use the rankings after Rome for the French Open.

#1 seed in Rome will be Venus Williams (if they use pre-Berlin rankings which is almost certain).

For Monica to get the #4 seed, she would have to do really well in Rome and hope Serena and/or Kim do really horrible.

I think that Jennifer may get the nod as the #1 seed in Paris due to the fact that she is the defending champion.

Talking

No way Barridude... if they didn't adjust seedings for Wimby, do you think they'll do that for RG?

VENUS
Serena
Lindsay Jelena Maria

Mary : Monica : Svetlana : Sania : Jennifer : Amelie
Roddick : Grosjean : David : Djokovic

Don´t you MIX things here ?

1) The rule was changed AFTER Wimbledon 2001
- so how did they use the system then AT
Wimbledon ? That wasn´t the case but will
be 2002

2) I think it´s the case that the tournaments
themselves CAN DECIDE wether to use the system+
or not - if the French would decide to make
past results count rather than the rankings that would be the case

BUT

as the hardcourt events of Australia, USA didn´t do it as hardcourt equals play and allows equal chances for the top32, they didn´t change anything

If you think of past years, seeding Zuluaga or Pierce would make sense rather than seeding Zina Garrison, f.e., in past years in Paris.

Think of Lori McNeil being 17 in the world and then taking out Graf in Wimbledon that year.

Those players, darkhorses, should get a seed rather than those players like Lisa Raymond with absolutely NO game on clay, same as Tanasurgan. There are a number of players around that would get a seed for Paris if they use the new system.

Whoever leads the rankings after Rome will get the top seed. It doesn't matter anyway. As Rolling Thunder wrote, the real difference is who gets the 3 and 4 seeds.
