JELENA Dokic has been forced to withdraw from next week's Canberra International due to a recurrence of an injury to her left abductor muscle.
<SPAN class=bodytext>Dokic aggravated the injury during her first-round loss this week in Auckland and now faces a race against the clock to be fit for the Australian Open starting at Melbourne Park on January 16.
The former world No.4 rang Canberra International tournament director Gerard Corradini today to inform him of her withdrawal when it was clear that she would not be sufficiently recovered in time to contest her first tournament in Australia in five years.
"When we spoke today Jelena was clearly disappointed that she wouldn't be able to play in Canberra," said Corradini.
"She told me that she had been over the moon when she first heard she had a wildcard to this event which made having to pull out today all the harder for her.
