Cool Which player is the most diplomatic, media-unfriendly

Which of thse players is the most diplomatic in post-match interviews? Think of their whole career (not just recent behaviour), and try to remember that diplomatic in this sense means saying nothing extreme. So a trashy interviewee is not diplomatic, neither is a all-sweetness and angelic interviewee. I'm thinking of somebody who is just very matter-of-fact, fairly media-unfriendly....

i'm not sure what you mean? The most diplomatic or the most media unfriendly. I voted for Patty Schnyder, because it seems as though she doesn't like to be interviewed.

Conchita Martinez for sure!

Diplomatic example extraordinare: French Open 1999, 2nd round vs. Mary Pierce. Mary was having a rare day even for her that day, coming in and out of the court for 5 to 10 minutes breaks, getting her blisters checked... etc... AFTER she finally got a time violation (penalty point) she got all annoyed and started demanding that Conchita was given a point deduction too for whatever the reason... if you saw this match, you surely remember... the commentators (impartial at the beginning) got to the point where they were saying "I hope Conchita wins the match" "this is so unfair on Conchita"

When asked what she thought, Conchita said "I was nervous, but I realised she was more nervous". You go, girl

She has never been baited to my knowledge to be anything BUT extremelly polite and diplomatic.

i'm with the cat. i don't get the question either. i think Venus is the most diplomatic interviewee -- she has mastered the art of saying nothing and offending no-one.

the most media unfriendly? i don't have a clue.

I think the point is that if you are very diplomatic you are media-unfriendly since you don't give any "juicy" tidbits to the media. If you only say "I played well" "she played well" you are not a fav of the media, they can't really exploit your comments, you aren't marketable.

Take the example I posted, if Conchita had gone on a rant about Mary, the media would have fested on that, she would have given them a "story"

Am I right here babywhale? is that what you meant?

If my understanding of the Poll is correct, then I would have to say Venus Williams. I think that she has learned exactly how to avoid any 'media baiting'. I wouldn't call that media unfriendly, but something more like media savy. I'm not going to vote because I haven't read most of the player's interviews, so I can only respond to the ones I have read.

Dammitt, Venus!!!

I don't think Venus fits... she's rather funny and interesting in her interviews... unlike Conchita (who I love, but really!)

I think it's a bit unclear what the poll means! lol

I agree Venus is the most diplomatic.

You can see it in her interviews

VENUS WILLIAMS
SERENA WILLIAMS
PAULA ORMAECHEA

I disagree with both Davenport and Venus.

Davenport because of the Mauresmo incident. Shows she is capable of showing teeth. Some of the others have never said anything similar.

Venus? Very diplomatic, but not media-unfriendly. She releases a few tidbits in her interviews about shopping, her dog, relation to Serena etc. The media love that kind of thing. Even though it's not controversial.

Some of the other players would be hard-pressed to say anything non-tennis.

So I'll agree with Gallofa:

Conchita takes the prize. Has she ever said a mildly controversial thing? Has she ever submitted personal information in an interview?

Oh, ok. So the poll is for the player who's the most nonchalant, uninterested, and boring in their interviews? I was confused. Well, I still can't vote because I don't know a lot about the other nominees' behaviour in interviews.

Dammitt, Venus!!!

i mean as Gallofa says:

not necessarily boring, but just diplmomatic and uncontroversial, not playing into the media's hands.

SMART basically.

In tennis, being critical and bitchy about other players and having an inflated ego usually ends in ters when the super one loses a match, or loses their rank, or withdraws at the last minute, or feels sick.....

I also think Conchita and Amanda exemplify "diplomatic" in the sense I define. If some people think it's boring it is, but that's not the subject of the poll.

keep voting guys, because it will be interesting to see who people think is least diplomatic too.

Smile So that's what you mean...

Well, in that case, it's Venus Williams, hands down. The most non-controversial, most diplomatic and fends off those stupid media "bait" questions the best!!!! Just read any of her post match interviews and the proofs in the "reading". Serena does well in her post match interviews as well. They both seem to handle the media quite well.
