(May 5) PALMA DE MALLORCA, Spain (AP) - Gaston Gaudio beat Jarkko Nieminen 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday to win the $381,000 US Mallorca Open tennis tournament.
"I am very happy with this new triumph in Spain," said the eighth-seeded Gaudio, who also won the Godo Open last week. "The truth is, I feel at home.
"Everyone has treated me well, especially the public, to whom I am very grateful."
Gaudio took a 3-1 lead in the first set, and Nieminen looked ready to come back when he made it 3-2. But Gaudio won the final three games of the set.
The second set was almost a repeat with Gaudio breaking serve to take a 3-1 lead.
El Aynaoui spoils Schuettler's first final in Germany
MUNICH (AP) - Morocco's Younes El Aynaoui beat Rainer Schuettler 6-4, 6-4 in the final of the BMW Open tennis tournament Sunday.
The sixth-seeded El Aynaoui broke Schuettler's serve in the first game of both sets and used a dominating forehand to win his third title of the year.
El Aynaoui was the only seeded player to reach the semifinals.
