This weekends womens tennis!

(May 5) HAMBURG (AP) - Kim Clijsters of Belgium rallied to beat defending champion Venus Williams of the U.S. 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the Betty Barclay Open tennis tournament Sunday.

Clijsters, 18, used powerful groundstrokes on the slow clay court in the second and third sets to keep Williams on the defensive and win her seventh title.

Williams, who beat Switzerland's Martina Hingis to reach the title match and retain the world No. 1 ranking for at least another week, capitalized on 12 unforced errors by Clijsters to easily win the first set.

"Venus played so well in the first set - she didn't make any mistakes," Clijsters said. "I just had to fight back and I got better."

Clijsters lost in straight sets at the U.S. Open in her only other match against Williams.

Williams, who also won the Barclay Open in 1999, was looking for her fifth title of the year. She earned $49,500, approximately $100,000 short of the $10-million mark in career earnings.

Svensson defeats Majoli to capture Bol Ladies Open

BOL, Croatia (AP) - Aasa Svensson of Sweden beat Croatia's Iva Majoli 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 to win the Croatian Bol Ladies Open women's tennis tournament Sunday.

"When I came here I didn't expect anything, so I didn't play under pressure," the 26-year-old Svensson said after her fourth WTA final.

It was Svensson's first win after Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 1999. She was the runner-up in Prague in 1994, and Houston in 1995, and she reached the third round of the Australian Open in 2002.

Svensson played better at the net and served more accurately. She made fewer errors than Majoli, leaving the best tennis for the third set in which she dominated.

Svensson, the only player who didn't lose a set before the final, is ranked 87th in the world.

Majoli, ranked 58th, was the only seeded player left in the $170,000 tournament. She failed to repeat her success from last week when she won her eighth title at Charleston, S.C.
