The only top 10 player without a title this year...

...is Justine Henin.

Lindsay obviously doesn't count. Is this significant? Opinions please.

I don't think it's that big of a deal, just my opinion. Justine's made several finals, always losing to Venus, I think??? And some of those matches have been close. Let's see how she fares in the upcoming clay events.

Not significant (yet) - most of the top players would be in the same position if they had run into Venus in all three of the finals they'd played this year ... although the fact that Justine really ought to have her name on the Amelia island trophy might be significant the next time she is on the verge of a big win in a final.

She's been having a better year than last year so far. Of course I would have prefered to see her win a final. She just has to improve mentally, then the wins will follow.

Mm-hmm mm-hmm... keep 'em coming.

I started this because I myself am not sure if it's significant as such, but it was on my mind. I don't really hold too much to it, because you're right Justinator, this has been a better start to the year than last year - though perhaps not as good as I had hoped.

Certainly there are no alarm bells going off (yet!), and she has so far arguably had a better year than Amelie, who does have a title. Just seeing if there might be anything in this that I hadn't thought of yet.

well Capriati has only won 1 title since June 15 last year. That's pretty poor form for the number 2 player.

Oh well, tought luck, she kept running into the same player...

It is not significant though, she's been getting closer and closer to winning it...

not sure if this is significant or not. she seems to be playing well tho' so maybe it's just a matter of time.

what if she doesn't win any titles this year but ends up pulling off a Hingis -- meaning that she keeps making it to the semis and finals of tournies. what will that mean to you FD?

It's a bit disappointing that she hasn't won a title yet this year but at the same time she's having a very good consistent year. She only had early losses at IW and Miami and for the rest she always made it to the quarters, semis and finals, always running into another top 10 player. She has played a lot of top 10 players this year and hopefully she has learned from those matches.
Personally I feel she can win one of the upcoming clay tournaments (preferably RG ).

How would I feel about Justine doing 'a Hingis'? LOL. I guess that overall it would depend how she's playing - but I would be perturbed if Justine were to go titleless for the whole year, who's she's getting beaten by in those semis and finals, and how. I know that Clijsters was something like 0-4 in finals last year before her win in Stanford, so it shouldn't be all doom and gloom. Plus there is (I feel) a lot more to come from her.
