For those who didnīt believe Martina would drop to no7 ...

Next week she might do that ...

Injury or not ; how can she play in a doubles final that just takes place 1.2 hours before the withdraw info is published ?!

The injury could be an explanation but not a reason

I believe she realized that her schedule is just too hard playing singles and doubles and decided to take it one after another ; I think that she knew about this injury before the doubles final, wanted to test it and then decided that itīs better to rest rather than to run into Henin, Capriati and Serena and she is not in 100% form.

Sheīs under immense pressure

Everybody says her chances for winning GS are best in Paris, everybody says her weapons to beat powerplayers are best on clay, everybody proposes a better schedule for her to get the best preparation and she just chose the hardest of it all, playing three in a row which nobody of the top3 in person of Venus, Serena or Jenn does.

I think, in spite of the injury, no7 might be the correct position for her at the moment as Justine and Kim might beat her under the current circumstances as well and as she has nothing to defend in the nearer future, we shouldnīt dramatize things as she will definetly re-climb the rankings soon

But at the moment, itīs time for some Hingis-fans to admit that she had no weapons once again against Venus and that Hingis, in contrast to other players, always talks about how SHE played and what SHE did wrong rather than to admit she is no longer the one to beat but she indeed IS BEATEN every time

Definitely think she overscheduled and this could be a wise decision. She has had problems with her foot repeatedly especially on clay it seems. I don't think it is anything too serious maybe just precautionary. I wanted to see her playing but her health and well-being is really the most important thing.

Martina seems these past couple years to be a superstar, for about a month and a half to start the season, then dives like a typhoon class sub.

I think she's going back into the lab to re-tool her game befroe Roland Garros. As for injury, it's a lot like Venus. Two years agao, if Venus had an injury she could play on, but she had very little chance of winning with such an injury, she withdrew. This year, in pursuit of the #1 ranking, she's playing those matches. (Of course, she's losing most of them).

Martina probablly could have played next week, but had no chance of winning if injured. And she could make it worse before RG. Best to take time off now. Also, she had a chance to test a more aggressive game plan vs Venus and it didn't work well. One wonders if she knows which direction to turn in next.

vertiklychalengd, that comment about Capriati is really not necessary so in the future just leave it ok?

Martina's ranking was always going to drop after she skipped Amelia island and FCC (well, mainly FCC) so I'm sure she was well prepared for it.

It strikes me that after she crippled herself trying to stay at no.1 last year she has clearly reorganised her priorities.

Not a bad thing by any means - having a bit less pressure probably helps her.

Anyway it's not like the ranking means she cant beat people ranked above her.

Yes, I agree. Now that Martina is ranked #7 she can finally start to beat people ranked above her!!!

Mirjana Lucic : Australian Open doubles champ and back in Top 100

Jelena Jankovic : US Open finalist 2008 and World No. 1

Jennifer Capriati : 3 Grand Slams, Olympic Gold and World No.1

Rafael Nadal : 10 Grand Slams, Olympic Gold and World No.1

Actually, I think she should try to keep her ranking in the top 8 still, if not, the seeds she'd meet are gonna get messy for her cause fo her low seeding...

VENUS
Serena
Lindsay Jelena Maria

Mary : Monica : Svetlana : Sania : Jennifer : Amelie
Roddick : Grosjean : David : Djokovic

It's better for Marti to meet the top seeds in the earlier rounds because normally they play poorly in those rounds. This must be a blessing in disguise for Marti.

SERENA---The Goddess in planet Venus.
