Just how much should we expect from Martina?

Lets be Real, what are your expectations?

I think she may compete for a while and then realize it may not be possible to break through the top 10.
Having said this I am thrilled that she has decided to return to the game and look forward to seeing her.

just expect her to play all year long. lack of match playing, especially in 3 years, can cause you many horrible losses and it always be a hard time when you are #1 and GS winner. i don't know how well Martina can handle it.

hope she can hang in there even she wins no title.

Basically, I think Martina will be playing about as well as when she first came on the tour, which was great for a 14-year-old but not exactly as spectacular as we would later come to expect of Martina Hingis the Grand Slam champion. However, expect a rapid rise as she will probably be fit again and eager to get going, having watched, analyzed and scouted everyone for the last couple of years.

Bold Prediction: Expect Martina back in the Top 100 by her third tournament.

I expect her first top ten win will come over sharapova. She will take advantage of her inexperience, not stellar movement and poor net play. She is one of the only top tenners i can actually see falling to hingis crafty play.

Mark my words.

I think consistency and her on court tactics were her strengths. both are bound to be rusty. I remember watching hingis in the late 90s and early 2000 and she would make like 5 UEs the whole match. but I can't imagine she'll be back at that level again. she'll be forced to go for her shots more than before and that will lead to more UEs. her brain game better be 100% because she still can't outhit the power girls, unless she's gone on some sort of steroid binge.. .

I think I have come to the conclusion that I have no idea what to expect from this comeback. Will be interesting to revisit this at the end of 2006 and see what actually transpired.

if she stays fit - i predict she could be top 10 again. maybe not next year, but definitely by 2007

i'm not sure if she'd be able to crack the top 5 again though...we'll see

for hingis the buttom line is Keep the U'es low
move ur opponent around the court
always mixe the direction
good shot at the net and drop shot
if she can exploit the poor movement of sharapova then charging the net it can be effective

What I expect is her trademark sense of construction. Beyond that, I don't know.

It really depends on her draws and stuff -- she needs WINS more than anything as I believe she is a confidence player and winning breeds winning for her.

I could see her doing really well by March or April - maybe top 50 if she gets some nice draws. I don't think she'll be that effective against consistent power players as she was losing her stature quiet a bit even before her injuries against V, S, and the other consistent power hitters.

Either way I'm happy for her to be back and wish her much success except against Venus and Serena

few first or second round loses, then after 5 to 7 tournaments, we'll see a glimpse of consistensy at QF and semis, then probably a title at Tier III.

2007 will be different, she will be a top 10 and a threat even to top players.
