You obviously don't know Anna that much (which is ok).
her big points came from big wins every now and then against top15 players, and not always on clay, especially not in small tournies.
since we've come to know her as a "lower tier clay queen" (which is 2002 really):
she reached IW QF.
she reached Moscow SF.
she won back-to-back hard tournies in australia.
she beat Henin on hard when the belguim was world #7, she beat world #8 Myskina and #14 Zvonareva back-to-back on hard, she beat World #13 Shagnessy on hard, she beat #13 Dementieva on hard, she beat world #13 Petrova and #14 Sugiyama indoors, she beat #13 Rubin on carpet
She beat world #14 Danilidou on grass.
as you can see for your own - apart d. Clijsters and Novotna on clay as top5 players (as well as top10 Dokic) she had most of her big wins in big tournies and high tiers, on surfaces that you wouldn't regard as her best.
it's true - her bread and butter were the lower tier tournies in which she would easily reach the QF stage - and from there always have a chance for the title itslef - but for me, she will be remembered for her abbility to stand up to the occasion and beat bigger, stronger girls on the surface they play better.
yes - her biggest title (sopot) and biggist wins were on clay - but she is not to be degraded as a lower tier player with no abbilities other than that.
she played tournies such as Rome, Berlin, Warsaw and Sopot for a reason - She was better than the lower tier alternative offered the same weeks.
I'm wishing she can have a last wonderful year on tour.
I hope she does well - i hope she somehow, i don't know how - comes up with a huge title in one of the clay build-up tournies, and tell the world "I told you so!".
I'm hoping she shows her clay brilliance in RG and reaches her much anticipated first GS QF.
I'm dying for her to win the Ande open here in israel - and say goodbye respectfully.
