Shikha wants equal opportunity for tennis players

tatesman News Service
SILIGURI, Nov. 29. — Tennis star Sikha Uberoi feels that the media should not promote tennis as a whole and not just a player. Soon after her arrival here today, Sikha, who played her first event as an “Indian” at the $170,000 Volvo Open in Thailand in February this year, said that she had no objection to the attention that Sania Mirza was getting but she wanted the media to focus on the development of the game in India over the past few years.
Sikha, said: “Sania deserves the honour that she is getting but there are others like Ankita Bamri and Moushumi Chakravorty whose achievements should be highlighted.” She said that China has 11 players among the top 50 in the world mainly because they promote all talented players and not just one. Asked why she did not join films like her uncle Suresh Oberoi and her cousin Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, Sikha smiled and said: “I think Vivek should have played tennis as there are more tennis players in our family than film stars.”
Sikha, who drove down to Siliguri from Darjeeling this evening, said: “I have traveled all over the world but nothing has ever made me feel as wonderful as Darjeeling did.”
Sikha sweated it out for over an hour at the Himalayan Tennis Academy after her arrival here and said she was immensely impressed by the setting and kids there.
The tennis star, who left India at the tender age of four and was brought up in the US, said she wanted to become world no. 1 in the coming years. She said she was working hard on both the mental and the tactical aspects of her game and hoped to improve her ranking very soon.

If sex is such a natural phenomenon, how come there are so many books on how to?

Sikha sounds to me as if she is a little bit jealous of all the media attention Sania is getting!!! hahaha

It's Shikha And I am sure Shikha knew, well before she decided to play for India, that Sania was going to get the most attention She is just making a point

She was born in India, but her parents moved to the USA. Neha, her sister, was born here. I guess she feels more Indian than American. Kristina Brandi was born in Puerto Rico, but raised in the USA, plays for Puerto Rico now.

fuck.

Real reason to play for india is money. She made a contract with indian tennis federation for sponsorship to the tournaments all over the world. Plus she wanted to explore huge endorsement possibilities in india just like sania. Unfortunately industries want sania not shikha!!

If the India tennis Federation have so much money, how come players like Ankita Bamri and Moushumi Chakravorty are struggling just to get into tournaments?? They don't even have proper facilities for training at home---why can't they help them??
Shikha just like Kristina Brandy stand a better chance of playing for their birth nations, because there are so many players that would qualify to play for the US before them. I mean they're no Navratilova or Seles

I don't think anyone would envy Sania for the media attention she gets .Its crazy! She has to watch every word she says I'm not sure even the Indian cricket team has to put up with such rubbish.I think she'd be pretty happy to share the spotlight with other players.

China does not have 11 players in the top fifty.Thats a typo.
