Sucky season????

Three grand slam semifinals and a quarterfinal run at the French Open. I think Maria's game needs to be taken to the next level, and maybe Landsdorp isn't the right coach for Maria at this stage in her career.

WTH?

She was in the semifinals of the Australian Open, The Championships, United States Open, Sony Ericcson Tour Championships.

She was in the Quaterfinals of Roland Garros, Kremlin Cup, and some other clay court tournament. Other than that... she got into a semifinal or better.

Maria beated who is number one player twice during this season. She had also an nice winning streak during the post-Australian season.

Even though she didn't achieve a vindicating victory, she, seasonwise, was far more excellent than last year..

The World's best player...

The only way Maria is going to get to the next level is if she steps up her net game. How is she going to do that? Why like every player play as much doubles as possible.
Landsdorp can only recommend that she does it. If she doesn't then she is only hurting herself.
If she would have given him the time then Landsdorp would have worked on getting her to get rid of that damn left handed forehand of hers and replaced it with a good enough slice.
She has a pretty good drop shot now and also has a good enough offensive lob.
Her defensive lob is nonexistent. Something again that Landsdorp would have taught if given the time. It was probably one of the biggest things that Landsdorp helped Lindsay with.

You were expecting Maria to get a lot from Lansdorp when he was really only spending a couple of weeks with Maria a year. She could benefit from a more full-time experienced coach, Robert wasnt up to it and didnt want to travel. Playing doubles isnt the only way to improve net-play...and Maria only plays LH FH's when she gets in postions where the ball is beyond her reach on a backhand, a slice wouldnt be much use in those situations...a lob maybe but the LH FH ends up as one most times

Btw Lansdorp has 1 'd'

Aren't you nice? Since you corrected me would you mind correcting MarJenAll20. He/She was the one I repeated the error from. Thanxs.

No playing doubles isn't the only way to improve net-play. Have most of the top players used it? Yes. Has it helped their games? Definately.
I see no reason for Maria to be any different if she wants to get better at net. Yes her LH FH ends up as a lob most of the time. It's not a great defensive lob like Kim's or Lindsay's. If she actually used the backhand and tried it, then I'm pretty sure it could get better. She has a pretty good backhand offensive lob.

She might have needed a coach full-time but I really don't know of many coaches that can help her in the places where she needs it without changing her game a bit.
I think she's fine as she is. If she could have been patient then likely she would have learned the things from Lansdorp. Again she didn't have a bad year. She was the most consistent player in the slams. She was ranked number one for a while. She didn't have a slump after winning a slam like Myskina and Kuznetsova. She has more variety than she had 12 months ago.

It just seems like a bit of impatience on her part or her father's part.

it was just a general correction

Maybe they were impatient...Im not sure what input Maria had but the disagreement between Yuri and Robert at the US Open wouldnt have helped
