Tanasugarn falls short in bid to reach AO cutoff

Tammy will be ranked about #125 when the AO list comes out next week, meaning that barring a miracle wildcard, she will have to play qualifying at a Grand Slam for the first time in 10 years (1996 AO).

There is always the possibility of the Asia WC, that is always given at the Australian Open (this year it was given to Mirza who got to the 3R).

If not then Tammy may experience from playing the Qualifying rounds and finding some form and acclimatising to the surroundings, which if she qualifies may be productive in the long run.

i believe the Asia WC has already been awarded to Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan, so the Aussies would have to give Tammy one of the WCs meant for their own players - possible but not too likely.

there's no way she'll get a wildcard but she's good enough to qualify if she gets some form back.

Yeah typically the winner of the Asian Championships Tourny takes the Asian WC. Last year Li Na won but qualified on her own merit which gave Mirza an opportunity as she lost to Na in the final.

Isn't there a second cut-off date? Or is this it? I'm glad Tammy is going to play qualies though so she can get some much needed points and confidence instead of playing a MD where a 1st round defeat is more than likely in her current form. Hope she keeps getting better!

Go Ai, Venus, Na, Tamarine!

Why would there be a second cut off date? No, that's it.

It's Tammy's own doing... With the last three tournaments, she should have advanced past Suchanan in Busan 50K, at least tried to win Casey last week and try to win the title this week...

but all her losses were straight sets and two of which were bagels...

She could have qualified.. but she blew it... Now I'm hoping for a good draw in the qualifying rounds...

I'm positive she'll not get any wildcard... it's not like she has done something amazing at Aus Open over the past ten years..

Don't be deceived by the rankings!! Coria, Mirnyi, Schuettler, Fish, Safin, Henman, Tursunov, Wawrinka, Federer, Serena, Bovina, Li Na, Dementieva, Zvonareva, Sugiyama, Coetzer, Tanasugarn, Kumkhum, Zheng, Dokic and Kournikova are the world's best tennis players!!!

3 weeks prior to the Aus Open, they'll do a rearrangement of the next-in lists, so Tammy still has a chance to just scrape through if she does well enough in Dubai, or get a high seeding for qualies at least.

poor Tammy! I miss her. I hope her confidence isn't going completely. She's getting to that age where her rank is starting to slip, she may decide just to call it a day! It was only three years ago when she was seeded at the Aus Upen

Мари́я Ю́рьевна Шара́пова , Јелена Јанковић, Venus Williams.
