Good News on French Open Coverage in Australia

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I read in the Herald Sun today that Channel 7 is screening the French Open this year! As you all know Channel 9 has had the rights for several years but only ever show it from the semi finals onwards. According to this article Channel 7 will show the whole two weeks (but Im not sure of the times). A good move IMO! I've always been pissed off with Channel 9 for never showing my favorite Grand Slam

Commentary team will include Sandy Roberts, John Alexander, John Fitzgerald, John Barrett, Garry Williams(from BBC), and Virginia Ruzici.

Those with Foxtel will also get full 2 weeks coverage.

OMG!!!! THIS IS GREAT NEWS!!!!!

During the Australian Open, I remember Sandy Roberts saying Ch. 7 would be showing the Fench Open this year...but I didn't believe him...It was so annoying when Ch. 9 only showed the SF onwards. I missed so many good matches...

Too bad the French Open's on at the same time as the World Cup...I wanna watch both of them....

wow thats great! I was always pissed off when they only showed semis on, the change was long overdue. I expect that the coverage will be filled with Lleyton Hewitt matches though, but still, its better than nothing.
I think thw world cup coverage will be shown in the daytime and the French Open at night, so there probably ownt be any clashes.

This is good news.

However, I hope they do not just focus on one court all the time and show women's matches as much as the men's. That's why in some respect, the highlights were good as they showed a few women's matches from other courts.

I'm not holding my breath though.

Simon there is a blurb on page 109.

BTW on a completely unrelated topic, Channel 9 has coverage of the World Cup right?

I thought it was SBS?

I just hope they won't concentrate all on Lleyton Hewitt.
Sorry to say this, but I was glad all the Aussie men went out early at the Aus Open, so that they wouldn't concentrate solely on them...

so was I danker I can only take so much of Wayne Arthurs on court 500

I wish it was SBS, they at least treat it with some respect...but I think one of the commercial networks has the rights (I think 9)...I dont know, I have to find out for sure. Maybe SBS will show some games? (according to my brother)..oh well, we'll find out soon enough.

The World Cup will be on SBS and Ch. 9. It depends on what match is on. Go to www.sbs.com.au/WC/WC.htm for complete listings...

Fantastic! I'm even more excited as I will be able to get coverage via Channel 7, Foxtel and Eurosport!!!!! Let's hope they show seperate matches then I can pick and choose what I watch.

And for those in Australia who don't think you can get Eurosport... let me tell you that you CAN GET IT ... I have it. But you do need a special satellite dish and a little bit of $.
