Enough already!!!

I am starting to get sick of it.

Please notice that this isn't against Anna but the media. This is just plain ridiculous.

Anna, ranked # 68 is beaten by # 52 Tina Pisnik in a tier 3 tournament in Croatia.

Players like Martina, Justine, Jelena and Kim, all top 10 playing a tier 2 in Germany win their matches.

However, what's heading the news? Anna's loss. And Anna's photos.

Again, it's not against Anna, but this is just absurd, honestly, they are treating women's tennis as a fashion presentation. It's not only bad for tennis, but I think it's also very negative for Anna.

She is playing a smaller tournament trying to get away and they just won't let her

I think at this point Anna really needs to make a decision. The pressure is mounting and will get worse and worse with every tournament.

It seems the only important news are related to Anna. If Martina, or Venus lose is just a detail, but if Anna losses there is a madness by the media to publish it.

I myself am getting sick of this media bullshit

I think that's one of the downsides of the Tour trying to promote the "personaly" factor of the players - it just plays into the pre-existing bias that the WTA isn't about a sport, but about the sideshow (not that the media wouldn't do this kind of thing anyway, but I really don't think it helps)

I'm waiting for the next round of "isn't it ridiculous that Anna gets all this media attention" stories by media who've spent the past few months obsessing about her, but act as if it's HER fault.

Reason is poor propaganda when opposed by the yammering, unceasing lies of shrewd and evil and self-serving men.

When Anna, loses the media will go banANNAS, and when she wins, they will still go banANNAS.

I totally agree with Fingon! I've been sick and tired of all the Anna media coverage for a long time and I'm glad somebody mentioned it... I've never really liked her and the media coverage would annoy me anyway but it would be a little easier to take if she was actually winning and they actually had a reason to write about her... she loses every single week so it's nothing new that it happened this week too... the media really needs to get over her

Also, I think alot of the tennis TV, and Tournaments, need to get with the PROGRAM.

I mean, I heard that ESPN Sportscentury, are going to air a 30 minute program .. about ANNA.. lmao. Right during the French Open.. I say ENOUGH!!

I like Anna. But I'm SICK of the attention she gets. I'd much rather hear about how top players like Venus or Martina win their matches then how Anna loses. What else is new with anna? Why do they act surprised that she loses?? Hopefully she can do better in Warsaw though.

Which decision?

I agree, it's stupid, but what can we do about it
the decision is, will she continue to fire up that media attention or concentrate exclusively in her tennis?

I know that Anna works very hard, despite her endorsements but, this has gotten to a point that makes the situation not workable anymore.

Simple, Anna won't get her career straight unless she takes attention off her. Obvioulsy, playing a smaller tournament does not help.

what does she need to do? well, first do a Justine , wear a simple and boring outfit, not the latest sexy design from Adidas.

Second, go to play the tournament, from the hotel to the stadium and back, don't go to the zoo, don't go shopping, nothing.

Third, continue her normal endorsements, but stop the videos with Enrique Iglesias and stuff like that.

Surely, that can mean less money for Anna but I think she has enough and she will have to sacrifice something if she wants her career to take off.

Just my opinion.

I now understand why Martina fell out with her.
If i were Martina, i wouldn't play doubles with her any longer. It takes a lot of the attention from the TENNIS itself.

Of course it's not ENTIRELY Anna's fault but you cannot deny that she profits financially from it??? I mean stuff like her Lycos commercial helps to perpetuate these images. Especially the commercial in which she sacked her manager, i cannot even remember what it's for but i can VIVIDLY remember her manager "having ideas"!!!! That was so stereotypical Ad!!!!
She consented to that, making lot of money on the way. It is a 2 way street.

In many ways it's the media which stops Anna winning the titles. I'd predict that if she played your average Tier III tournament - i.e. no cameras, no media there, no pressure - she'd do a lot better. (Notice I still don't say she'd win, I don't have *that* much faith in her.)

Sartrista, if Anna played a challenger, the media would be there even if the other players are in a Grand Slam

It maybe an exageration but now she is playing a tier 3 while the top players are in a tier 2 and she gets more attention.

What does she play next week? Sopot? I bet there will be more press on Sopot than Berlin

I agree Fingon, it's so annoying. And it's almost as if they're waiting for the loss, waiting to file it as the major news story of the day regardless of what's going on elsewhere.

I wasn't surprised to see that they have photo's of her arriving, photo's of her practicing, photo's of her sitting, photo's of her playing and of course photo's of her disappointment at the end of the match. They never forget that photo. It does get annoying. I think some of her opponents tend to bring out their "A game" just to get the attention/spot light??? does that make sense??

What I don't like is that the Grand Slams always seem to have one "side show" that they obsess about! It takes away from the little bit of tennis that I do get to see. (recent side show's --> Tax problem of a player, should player A retire, issues w/ parent/coaches)
I have an ill feeling that she will be the next one at the French... it will be all about those photo's.

It's very likely that Anna is contractually bound by Adidas to wear that outfit. They're paying her millions of dollars, so i guess she has little decision. There were rumours that Adidas were concerned with Anna's performances, which is basically because losing first and second round or playing small events means that she's not seen enough. Hence Adidas will be sending photographers to the smaller tournaments and paying news providers to write stories about her still and publish photos. But it's still not the best for them. They also want her to win.

I agree the media attention on Anna this week and any week is ridiculous, but Anna's not choosing for it to be like this, she's not telling the media to report on Bol and not Hamburg. Hamburg should be getting more coverage, but blame the media, not Anna.
