Luxemburg...was it really worthy the upgrade?

I can immagine how big the effort has been to promote the tournament from $170K to $585K

But looking at the 4 first seeds (Clijsters, Petrova, Schnyder & Dechy) makes me wonder how happy the organisers will be now as this kind of upgrade is meant to attract big names as players outside the top 20 would compete here anyway. And knowing that Kim would have played it even as a Tier III same as the 90% of the field means that the huge upgrade has been made to make Petrova play here. Not a huge boost for the tournament IMO...

But I, being poor, have only my dreams

There are too many big tournaments in this part of the year and events that have a lot more history and prestige than this event. There's no way there should be a Tier II event or higher for seven straight weeks followed by the YEC.

Venus Williams-Ana Ivanovic-Serena Williams-Vika Azarenka-Caroline Wozniacki

McHale-Stephens-Watson-Robson-Townsend

i dont think kim would have played if if it were still a tier 3, due to the new WTA ruling. now, she can only play 1 tier 3 tourney, and that is hasselt

whats your point? If top players consistently play at a low event, maybe it needs promoting.

Kim wouldn't have played Luxembourg unless it had been upgraded so the argument that she plays every year doesn't work, under the GE rules (Kim was added to the GE list after the season as she asked for time to get back on tour) she can only play one tier III event a year and she chooses Hasselt. Last year when it was a tier III she didn't commit but ofcourse it didn't matter as she was injured in Hasselt. Kim did go to do a kids clinic there though.

If you look at the original commitment list then it looks like a tier II field they had Kuznetsova, JHH, Ana, Bovina but they all withdrew with injury had that field turned up it would have been a good tier II draw.

The original commitments list was much stronger. LUX is just on the bad end of the injuries, which is too bad because it seems like it's a pretty good little event. I was happy it was upgraded, very prestigious for the little country

Can someone please explain this new rule about not playing below Tier III's for some players? Why have Venus and Myskina been haunting the weak events so much this year?

Don't know the exact rule but it depends on what band you are on the GE list.
