Miss January!

I've just realized something: Martina Hingis must love (have loved) the month of January! She totally OWNED the Australian/Asian tennis season. From 1997 to 2002 she won 1 Hopman cup (one final, also, I think), 3 times in Sydney (and 1 final), 3 Australian Opens (and 3 finals) and 4 Pan Pacific Opens in Tokyo (and 2 finals, I think). She owned the Australian hardcourts, just like Davenport recently owns the Californian hardcourt season, or Navratilova owned Wimbledon, or Graf owned...well, everything, actually.
Why did Hingis play so well in Australia and in Tokyo, at the start of the season, actually? Better training in December? Was she "fresher" than the others? Opinions?
