Venus - A Chance At Making History For Sister Pair

Serena having won the first edition of the China Open, if Venus wins this weekend, she and Serena will be the first sisters pair to win the same tournament in its first 2 years of inception.

This is very significant and a unique opportunity. Once she does it, it will never be repeated here at this same tournament again.
Venus and Serena will always be the first Sister pair to win it back-to-back, the first 2 years of its inception.

Can she be denied?

If Venus is successful, the archives on the China Open might look like this years from now. It is assumed China open has become the 5 th slam by then.

History Of The Beking Open

Past winners

2004 Serena Williams (*)
2005 Venus Williams (*)

....

(*) Venus Williams and Serena Williams are sisters; Venus is the oldest by a year. They also hold titles in the other sister major slam events. They were the most successful sister pair in tennis at the turn the last century and beginning of this century. They revolutionized the sport with by their power, speed, athletism and all-around game. Venus later became lethal with her net game. Both had power serves, routinely serving over 185KMH up to a speed of 229KMH, which was in man territory at the time. The sisters had varied interests outside tennis, and made tennis more popular in the general public in the US and around the World. They were also entrepreneurs and own and run their own companies while still competing

Well the WTA number 1 ranked and number 1 seeded player, Maria S. is still in the draw.
Although I am optimistic about Venus winning this, nothing should be taken for granted these days. This week alone has seen its share of upsets.
A match is not won until the umpire calls the final score.

Venus has the mental edge over Maria at this moment, and should be slightly favored to win in case they meet

Even though exo's mean nothing in terms of head-to-head, they sometimes can affect dynamics between players mentally. Maria clearly tried in Seoul, but Venus' game is just a touch better at the moment. Venus will have to work hard to win here.

I hope Venus wins, but I can't see how this is a significant achievement, well an achievement on the same par as something like "First sisters to meet in the final of 4 consecutive grand slams". It's still a cute piece of trivia though i guess.

Well, wishful thinking of fan I guess. But here is my rationale.

Things are moving very fast in China, the country is becoming more powerful on the world stage and getting more influence.

Few years from now, this event could become a 5th grand slam as the organizers are aiming. And if it does, the archives would become all of the sudden important and you'll see.
