why does serena always talk like she is #1 but then loses

she is always saying how she believes she is the top player, has the best game, and all.. then she loses.

She's in denial.

I, as one of the biggest Serena fans ever, can admit this...

she needs to train her ass off for 2006, get fit, and stop procrastinating!

Put your money where yo mouth is, RENA!

ok. enough.
she lost one match. it happens!
i can give serena the benefit of the doubt, because as a venus fan i watched her struggle to get back into form. was it painfull--absolutely! but, she didn't run and hide; she took her losses graciously (mostly--i mean even after sprem she was the height of grace) and now her game is coming back. kim came back too soon reinjured her wrist had to leave again, came back, reinjured something else, and the came back, lost the 4th round of two slams and then went on a tear culminating in her first slam title.
serena is not invincible and no one can really say for sure that she is not taking her tennis seriously. if she isn't, then she will soon learn that she can't take wins for granted anymore. but if her body won't/can't heal, all she can do is wait for it to catch up with her aspirations.

I think that statement by Serena has been blown out of proportion. I took it more as a statement that she believes she has the game to be number one and her plans are to work hard to regain the number one position. I didn't take it as though she were saying that she is playing well enough to be number one right now. It was more a statement about her aspirations.

I think Serena can be back near the top of the game if she wants to work hard to do it. But it might be difficult to get back to number one. If she does that, it will be an achievement. It's not easy to regain the number one spot after having lost it.

Exactly - I really don't know why there is so much trouble understanding this.

You know if you win 7 slam singles titles by the age of 23, you might think you are pretty dang good...Even when you are not on top of your game, confidence is likely to be premium!!! try and figure it out Einstein

how about 7 when you are still 18?

You have to answer for Santino, Carlo.

Serena should withdraw from all her remaining events. She should rest up and then train hard to defend her AO title. No one likes seeing her lose to Jill Craybas and TianTian Sun.
We all know she is one of the best players going around.
