Vania King qualifies! Defeats Gallovits 6-4, 6-7(1), 6-4

A great couple of days for American juniors! First Glatch making the semis at Forest Hills, and now King qualifying. Does anyone know anything about her? How much potential does she have?

She turned 16 in March. She's not very tall though...5-5 is what I've seen listed for her as of April. Hopefully that won't hinder her in the future. Maybe she's still growing...she does look really young.

It would be nice if she could be drawn into a qualifier spot in Lindsay's quarter. There are a bunch of nice spots, especially against Smashnova, Sucha, or Golovin that have a chance to get to the 4th round. Or there's a nice spot against Maggie Maleeva that leads to Myskina in the third round.

saw the end of this match...she did everything she could to lose...she double faulted on two match points including a second serve that missed even the doubles alley

Vania and Alexa play doubles together in juniors. They are also SoCalif rivals. Alexa is from Orange County and Vania from Long Beach.

Very cool. I've followed her name the past couple of years. Good for her to get to a Slam main draw.
