Which tournament was the best in terms of...

Which tournament was the best in terms of matches, match quality, top players playing and playing well, and etc...

I think the 2001 Australian Open was pretty good. Serena vs. Hingis, Venus vs. Hingis, Jennifer vs. Lindsay, Jennifer vs. Hingis, Lindsay vs. Anna K., Jennifer vs. Monica. Some great matches and results here.

2001 US Open was also pretty good. Serena vs. Hingis, Jennifer vs. Venus, Lindsay vs. Serena, Venus vs. Kim, Venus vs. Serena, Jennifer vs. Amelie. The quality wasn't there a lot of the time, but there was plenty of drama.

Any others?

It doesn't have to be a Grand Slam, either.

Let them eat cake.

WOW! Maybe the US Open in '99 should be the winner of best Slams.

Venus vs. Hingis
Serena vs. Lindsay
Serena vs. Seles
Lindsay vs. Pierce
Hingis vs. Sanchez-Vicario
Hingis vs. Serena

So many great matches- all but two of those weren't three-sets.

Let them eat cake.

High, high quality stuff there. Serena's serve was out of this world during that tournament. Not to mention Venus and Serena winning the Doubles title!

Let them eat cake.

some people wouldn't know a high quality match if it slapped them in the face. not a one match at this year's AO was high quality. there were many dramatic matches of two players at their worst. to think that the finalists were davenport and serena, who had both played their respective worst tennis throughout the tournament -- mind-boggling and shame on the rest of the girls who were out of shape and folding like decks of cards

2001 AO was a great, great tournament. 1999 US Open was a great event as well.

How about 1999 Australian Open:

Hingis-Mauresmo, Hingis-Seles, Pierce-Hingis, Seles-Graf, Graf-Mary Joe Fernandez, Venus-Davenport, Serena-Testud, Van Roost-Mauresmo, Davenport-Mauresmo, Pierce-Kournikova, Seles-Applemans, Seles-Testud, Schett-Sanchez Vicario, Schett-Graf, Hingis-Dokic, Hingis-Dementieva, Hingis-Coetzer.

There were so many great players in the draw and it was so deep that Graf-Seles was a QF, Graf was scheduled to play Aranxta in the 4th Round.

Hingis had to defeat Dementieva, Coetzer, Dokic, Pierce, Seles and Mauresmo to win the title. Serena lost 9-7 in the final set in the third round to Sandrine Testud, who would then go on to lose to Monica Seles 6-0, 6-3. Seles struggled to beat Applemans 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Venus survived a fright in her opening match against Silvia Talaja, winning 9-7 in the fifth but came unbeaded in a controversial 6-4, 6-0 loss to Lindsay Davenport in the quarterfinals. Novotna, Schnyder and Martinez were all early round casualties. There was Mauresmo's coming out, the "half-a-man" controversy Lindsay and Martina were caught up in. Kournikova's doublefaults plagued her and Venus' suffering from a point penalty because of her beads caused her to lose her composure and her focus. And ofcourse, there was Monica's 33-0 win-loss record in Melbourne before losing to Martina.

Players in the draw: Martina H, Lindsay, Venus, Serena, Steffi, Monica, Aranxta, Jana, Conchita, Mary, Babsi, Kournikova, Patty, Amelie, Dominique, Elena D, Dokic, Coetzer, Testud amongst others.

FUCK YOU, SEWTA.
