US Open - Who is favourite ?

That's what's to be found as odds :

CLIJSTERS, Kim (BEL)3.00HENIN-HARDENNE, Justine (BEL)3.75SHARAPOVA, Maria (RUS)5.50WILLIAMS, Venus (USA)7.00WILLIAMS, Serena (USA)10.00MAURESMO, Amelie (FRA)14.00DAVENPORT, Lindsay (USA)17.00KUZNETSOVA, Svetlana (RUS)31.00MYSKINA, Anastasia (RUS)34.00DEMENTIEVA, Elena (RUS)51.00PIERCE, Mary (FRA)51.00SCHNYDER, Patty (SUI)51.00IVANOVIC, Ana (SCG)61.00PENG, Shuai (CHN)61.00PETROVA, Nadia (RUS)61.00VAIDISOVA, Nicole (CZE)71.00LI, Na (CHN)81.00MOLIK, Alicia (AUS)101.00HANTUCHOVA, Daniela (SVK)121.00JANKOVIC, Jelena (SCG)121.00CHAKVETADZE, Anna (RUS)126.00ZVONAREVA, Vera (RUS)141.00DECHY, Nathalie (FRA)151.00GROENEFELD, Anna-Lena (GER)151.00KARATANCHEVA, Sesil (BUL)151.00

As usual not a big surprise.

The two Belgians are overwhelming favourite.

Only Wimbledon was a big downer for the two Belgians.

Justine has won 4 out of her 6 tournaments. (What the hell happened in England, Justine ?)

Kim has won 5 out of her 11 tournaments (one out with injury).

Antwerp, Wimbledon and San Diego are the only tournaments that they didn't win (when one of them was present).

9 out of 12 is not all that bad.
Nobody comes close to those statistics.

They played 9 finals, they have won all of them.

They only left scraps for the other players (except Wimbledon). We will see if Myskina and Mauresmo are able to stop Kim and Justine in Canada.

Well, if the top players continue to fall like this, we will see some strange results at the US Open.

At the end of the year we will have a completely different ranking.

IMO the biggest favourites right now are Kim, Justine and Venus. If Lindsay turns up healthy next week, she can be added to that list. I'm a little more doubtful about Maria and Serena, because their injuries only seem to be healing "last-minute".

Amélie also looks to be in good form, but it seems a bit too early to call her a favourite: let's see what she does against Nadia today and hopefully/maybe against Justine in the semi's! I think Mary was also playing well enough to pose a threat, but hopefully she can recover in time to be totally healthy...

The interesting thing about odds is that they represent where money is going. In analyzing the year, there's no logical reason for Davenport to be 12-1, and Sharapova 4-1. Given that she hasn't beaten a top ten player since Miami, I'd be a bit leery of betting on Sharapova at those odds.

Clijsters........ 2-1
Henin-Hardenne... 5-2
Sharapova........ 4-1
V Williams....... 5-1
S Williams....... 7-1

zx Field.........10-1.(Any Other Player)

Davenport........12-1.?!?!?
Mauresmo.........12-1
Kuznetsova.......20-1
Pierce...........25-1
Myskina..........30-1
Dementieva.......50-1
Schnyder.........50-1
Petrova..........60-1
Peng.............60-1
Molik...........100-1

This is not question for tennis experts, fans or bookmakers - this is question for medicial mans.

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

She beat one at Wimbledon..ok a highly overrated top ten player, but a top ten player nonetheless...in fact she hasn't lost to a top 10 player since Indian Wells...

those odds are too skinny... there percentage is to high...
you should really search for a better book ....if you bet regually.. after a while most will let you have best odds available.

I don't buy that as a generic reason. "injury" isn't impacting the odds on Sharapova. It probably IS impacting the odds on Serena, but not that much.

Odds are never 'wrong', of course. The speculation is in what's impacting the way people bet.
