Tell me about the Wimbledon final!!!

I had to come back to the UK from Japan on the Saturday so completely missed the final!!

I've only seen one point (match point) and of course Venus' reaction

But what was the match like? Lindsay had match points, served for the match? Were the crowd into it?? Who played better overall?? And so on.....Thanks

Muguruza Kerber
Venus Cetkovska
Safarova Kvitova

It was a great match... Lindsay played nice consistant tennis in the first set, then Venus picked it up in the second and both were playing well. Venus had a set point at 5-4 and Lindsay held on and then broke straight away after Venus fell on break point . So Lindsay served for the match but Venus unleashed an array of winners and broke her to love The tiebreak was all Venus as she slammed more winners including an inside out bh to get to 5-1.. that was amazing!!!

The third set was intense. The crowd was subdued after Lindsay tweaked her back, as they thought she might not be able to play as good, but she battled on a got a MP at 5-4 on Venus', but Venus was too good and again cracked an inside out bh winner to save it. I think in Venus' next service game she was down 15-30 and they had a 25 stroke rally which was incredible! Venus finally hit an angled fh winner. Eventually Venus broke and held fairly easily to take the match

I'm sure you can refer back to earlier posts on this board and read about all the drama that happened in the final.

Venus played like crap in the first set and was down two breaks with LD serving for the match, then she broke to take it to 4-5, before LD served to win the set 6-4.

Second set same story, although she was more inspired in patches. LD served for the match and was broken to love. The match went to a tiebreak, and VW jumped to a quick lead I think it was 5-1 at some point. She eventually won the breaker 7-4 and it was very entertaining. It is also in this set that LD had match point??

In the 3rd set Lindsay was up a break before she took injury timeout. She then went on to serve and was up 40-15 to go up 5-2, which I think would have sealed the match. Venus broke and they were on serve all the way, even though LD was up 15-30 or 0-30 in a lot of the games. She was two points from winning the match on no fewer than 4 times.

Both ladies held serve up until 7 all, when Lindsay was broken. VW was quickly up 40-0, at which point she raised both her arms!! She was so pumped. She double faulted on her 1st matchpoint, and if I remember well she won it on her second, when LD dumped a forehand into the net, to begin the wild celebrations that you saw. It was a beauty to watch, you could see just what it meant to her when she went up 40-0. Its been a difficult journey for her, and its remarkable how she did it.

While many say that LD did not choke away the match, I have to wonder. I think she got tense at the wrong times, such as when she was serving for it. I doubt if she believed she could win it. Having said that, Venus played remarkable tennis when her back was against the wall!

Hope that is useful.

Take care of your character. Reputation will sort itself.

Thanks you two!!! So would you say Lindsay had the upper hand for the majorit of the match?? Or did it swing between them? Also, did the ijnury affect Lindsay so much that she wouldn't be able to win?

From the sounds of it, its still looks like Venus won it, not Lindsay losing it....am i right??

Yes.. Lindsay was in front the entire match until the last 5 minutes... Lindsay said the injury didnt affect her play... and that Venus was just too good on the important points.

Lindsay played great tennis the whole match, and if you watched her level at the end of the 3rd set it was the same level as early in the match. Her injury didnt seem to affect her, and I think it was more caused by nerves than anything else. Venus fluctuated more, sometimes brilliant, sometimes bad. But Venus managed to play well on important points, like when she was down a match point.

No not really. It wasn't that kind of match. Venus had 10 winners and 10 UEs the first set. Forehand held up. Amazingly high first service percentage. She was actually playing pretty well. Lindsay was playing better. And Venus didn't so much as start playing better than Lindsay as she started playing AS WELL as Lindsay. Venus herself said she felt like she was playing from behind the entire match. It was quite a battle. Better than the Williams-Sharapova OZ semi.

You can download the match at http://www.WorldOfVenus.net.

It was a good match but Venus played like crap most of it but picked it up for the big points.

"I told her, `You don't want to get into a hitting battle with Sharapova, because it would be uneven for Sharapova, because Sharapova only has one good side and that's her backhand,"'. "`You don't want to get into that for the simple reason you would win. So try to hit some balls to her strong side, to her backhand, and that would help you with your match for tomorrow

I have no idea why you would say that. I've looked at that match three times, and she played quite well for most of it. Her form in the first set would have beat most of the top ten.

She won 47% of the points on her second serve against one of the best returners on the tour, who only been #1. What exactly do you expect?

She didn't play like total crap, but most of the time she played very "nervous" tennis, all I could think of watching her is that Venus is tight. I thought when she won those 2 games from 2-5 down hitting 7 winners that she was awake then, but she still wasn't grunting as she normally would when losing or fighting hard in a match. She seemed to be too consumed with nerves to play with intensity.
