Na Li is playing Toronto. Probably the clay events as well, I'm assuming. She doesn't need hardcourt practice. She knows how to play on it

I wonder if Serena is going to be there..according to Venus, she said she doesn't think Serena is going to play anymore this year.

Venus and Serena ....Often imitated NEVER duplicated!!!!!!!

Are the only two US Open series events that Venus is playing are Stanford and Canada? I have a feeling that Venus just might fore-go Swedon and play in San Diego. That's kind of stupid on Myskina's part not to defend her San Diego points.

You would think Team China would be getting straight back to tour after skipping the grass season, but no.

They won't be playing in October either due to the National Games.

Acura event draws many of top names

By Jerry Magee
UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER
July 13, 2005

Defending champion Lindsay Davenport joins Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Kim Clijsters, Elena Dementieva and Mary Pierce in the field for the Acura Classic, the tournament announced yesterday.

The $1.3 million Tier I event on the WTA Tour is to be contested at the La Costa Resort and Spa from July 30 to Aug. 7. Main-draw matches begin Aug. 1.

Giving the tournament an additional dimension is that it is one of five women's competitions that are part of the U.S. Open Series. Players can accumulate points in this series, with the men's and women's winners positioned to double their earnings at the Open, scheduled Aug. 29-Sept. 11 in New York.

A player winning both the series and the Open would realize $2.2 million.

Raquel Giscafre, an officer of Promotion Sports, which offers the Acura event, said it is too early to determine what sort of bearing the series will have on the fields for the series' events.

"We've always had a good field," Giscafre said, "but I think the series will be influential because the U.S. Tennis Association is making a great effort to market it."

The first event in the series, the RCA Championships for men beginning Monday in Indianapolis, has attracted Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi, but otherwise the field is not particularly distinguished.

"It takes time for players to realize there is a lot of money involved," Giscafre said. At Wimbledon, which she attended, she said players were beginning to talk about the series.

While Serena Williams is entered at La Costa, Wimbledon champion Venus Williams is not. Giscafre said Venus also will not be playing in the JPMorgan Chase Open at Carson the week after Acura, having chosen to compete instead in a Tier IV tournament in Stockholm.

"Maybe she likes to travel," Giscafre said.

The young contingent of the women's tour is to be well-represented at La Costa. In the field in addition to the 18-year-old Sharapova, the 2004 Wimbledon titlist, are 17-year-old Tatiana Golovin of France; Marat Safin's 19-year-old sister, Dinara; and two promising 18-year-old Russians, Anna Chakvetadze and Evgenia Linetskaya.

Others down to play include Jelena Jankovic of Serbia, who defeated Serena Williams at Dubai this year, plus Karolina Sprem of Croatia, Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, Nathalie Dechy of France and three other Russians often ranked in the top 20, Nadia Petrova, Vera Zvonareva and Elena Likhovtseva.

OK. This committment list is great. Now where is the Stanford entry or comittment list?
They have about 10 days or so but isn't it a little late like the entry list for Eastbourne?
