Tina Pisnik: I’m not a Traitor
Maribor - Tina Pisnik told her side of the story about not competing at fed cup in Beijing. Despite huge announcments she didn’t tell much new. There remain many questions about her further competing for national team.
In the camp of Tina Pisnik the sure sisn’t expect that her cancellation would, together with competing at Italian Cuneo, cause such a reaction.Beside strong words of disapointment from tennis association (SLO version), team capitain and the first team player (K.S.), she was, in the opinion of T.P. and her coach Dragan Bosnič, unjustily villified in the press.
Bosnič explained the deep roots of Tina’s injury. Her problems started in Portorož, at the game USA v SLO and repeated after two trafic accidents. He said, she was treated all the time with no help of the SLO tennis association.
"On Friday, before leaving for FED cup, her injury reappeared, of which she informed team capitain (MJ). After consulting with therapists I advised her it is better to cancell the trip to China. The cause is simple, she would be alone there, with no one to help her if the problems escalated. Chinise were unhospitable even to the healthy ones. I talked with Mima about this on Sunday, after returning from London, I also told her about the tournament in Italy it was not a secret we applied. After this explaination we ended our comunication. We saw Tina wasn’t successful in Cuneo. She is not capable to beat a number 113 on clay in this situation, not to even mention Chinese players. And on hardcourt, that would harm her even more. The facts proved it was a right decision”, explained Dragan Bosnič.
Tina Pisnik didn’t say much. "It is much fairer I gave a chance to Sandra, Andreja, than to really travel there, bluf and sit through the matchec on the bench.”"
About the reactions in media and the replies of Jauševec and Srebotnik, who didn’t choose words about her cancellation, she told: “Very unfair. How can they publically set my diagnosis. The words that I’m bluffing and that I’m a traitor are unappropriate. There was much overreaction. We had two choices, to go to China or to Cuneo. After I lost in Italy I came back home to therapies. What would I do in China? Sit and observe others!”
A big problem in her cancellation is her contract with tennis association, that was signed by all the players. Association claims, also by TP. She responds. “I signed no contract. We had a deal for Turky and that was that. Before the meeting with China we would do the same, but it happened what it did."
How will the team be selected in the future: with Tina or without her? "If I’m in a state to win a point for Slovenia, I’ll cooperate. It’s all in the air right now. To many unclear things, but right now I don’t belong on the team!”
Possibility she will return to the level of tennis she played before the injury are small. It’s hard for me to grasp that, thinking of Muster and the like, rising from ashes. Objectivly chances are small. She’s working on two fronts all the time, on getting healthy and playing competative matches at the same time. We didn’t consider to suspend her career for a while and work on her injuries.” Added Dragan Bosnič.
There's another article, interview with Tina's father in a weekly magazine Jana (published today, so given before this press conference). It basically says the same stuff, but in more emotional tone and more accusing towards the Slovenian tennis association, Mima and Katarina. Also some random things I didn't know: they are still negotiating monetary compensation about the time she was injured in an accident caused by American tournament's official driver. He also claims Tina went to Italy to get points (not money - she expected at best to break even with the costs and she would be payed better playing in China for the fed cup team) she needs to get a good ranking.
