Monica fans , Do you think Rafa is a modern , male version of our little Mo?

both of them are lefties and Rafa can go 2 handed like Monica as much as any man I've seen. Both were/are young prodigies, both won RG first, both have/had superior baseline strokes with superior accuracy but what really propelles/ed them is the mental toughness and competitiveness, both struggled early on grass and both came up against dominant players on huge streaks.

Also both of them were/are very extroverted even after the stabbing which made them very popular as well as the game itself to a wide variety of people. But let's face it, no one can dance around like Rafa

Why do you want to compare Nadal with anyone possible...? I have read threads on him like this before...
He is totally different from Monica in any way of playing tennis (no double hand-style on both sides, top-spin compared to flat groundies...) I see no similarity at all.
And where Monica was kind of shy in talking about her aims in tennis when she was starting her Grand Slam wins, he talks about "winning Wimbledon is my goal from now on until I die"...a bit exaggerated to me... Well, he is certainly different, I don't like him so much, but I can understand that others are his fans. So cudos to him for winning the French Open at his young age, he will grow in character and life perspective for sure.

BUT HE HAS NO SIMILARITY WHATSOEVER TO MONICA.
If winning the French Open is a similarity then many players would be similar to her...but there aren't because there is only one Monica!

Monica announced her official retirement on February 14, 2008. What a sad day! I'm proud to be a Selestial and I admire Monica for her fighting spirit and her character.
The tennis world has lost one of the greatest players of all time! Have a wonderful post-tennis life!

Arantxa, you will always be in my heart. Thanks for all the great matches you gave us and for just being a wonderful person on and off court.
All the best for your future!

If anything Nadal is the new Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, without Arantxa's good volleying skills.

Plus Monica wins where way more diverse than Rafa's. He just won his 8 titles
(all 8 are on clay). I don't know why the men tour has clay tournaments when it's hard court season, it gives people like Rafa a way to pad their rankings!

When did Seles ever sprint across the whole baseline and up and down the court about seventeen times just to stay in one point?

This new kid on the block must get through tennis shoes like I get through boxes of Kleenex and hand lube.

absaloutly NOT.

if you have nothing important to say, please do so in non-tennis forum. if you have something you think is important, but is actually rubbish regarding anything other than tennis - please do so in the non-tennis forum. if you have something tennis related to say, but it's actually "OMG, X player is so h0t!1" or "who has the biggest boobs on the wtatour" please do so in menstennisforum, under "wta forum". if you have something important, tennis-related and interesting to say please do so. No one in the world can understand how much tennis means to someone, except another fan.

Monica was the one to never give up
You are funny
I recently watched her match against Capriati in key biscayne 91 and you woulnd't believe how much they were pushing each other from side to side.
Monica was so strong mentally at such a young age that she had winning confidence going against Graf and Navratilova and others. I see similar confidence in Rafa going aginst Fed really. The one thing where they are different obviously is that Monica is quiet, smiling off court and completelly unassuming whereas Rafa is very macho looking and behaving.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Rafa goes the distance and wins some US and Aussie Open and RG is his to lose. Of course he'll struggle at Wimby but I think he's shown ability to get better and persevere. So It just seems to me that their strenghts and weaknesses are similar and both have this mental toughness aura that makes them persevere.
But as someone else pointed out to the stabbing, let's hope Fed doesn't have some criminally minded fans who are threatened by Rafa

Are you being serious? Rafa has good results on hardcourts, he was only points away from a straight set win against Federer in the Miami final! He definitely does not pad his ranking from clay tournaments.
