Question Daja Bedanova

I'm watching her playing WTT right now, and it's so great to see her again after who knows how many years!! Does anyone know what she's doing these days? Is she playing tournaments on the ITF circuit?

For the last few months shes been making her comeback on the ITF circuit. She's currently #285 in the singles rankings.

Thanks. Looks like she still has a lot of work to do, she just netted this overhead in the doubles match she should have put away. But her volley skills look great!

She played WTT last year too. She actually managed to beat Nicole Vaidisova though it was very close.

She is trying to play ITF's, not too succesfully. Something mysterious and serious must've happened to her. Two years ago, after failing to qualify at the USO, I asked her coach what was wrong with her an he said: "she is struggling", as if that was an answer. I understand she suffers from persisten knee/feet injuries. Otherwise it is a severe headcase.

I also heard she had financial/sponsorship problems, which is why she took so long to come back. I dont know if thats true.
Shes doing ok on the ITF's, and slowly working her way up. Back in the top 300 now

I read somewhere that she had signed a contract with a sponsor, stating that after five years on the pro circuit that she would become a German citizen. She hadn't read the fine print and refused to revoke her Czech citizenship. The sponsor cut her off and demanded that she repay all the money that he had given her. Along with the injuries, that was a large part of the reason why she gave tennis a break. She got a job and managed to pay back the sponsor but then needed to earn more money to start travelling again and return to full-time tennis.

I really hope she can come back to the tour, she had so much potential a few years ago. I don't think she'd fare well against the top players right now, but it's going to take time to be able to get back near that level.
