Jenny Finch on SI cover

I think this is insane. At least Venus is in the lower corner.
What did Finch do last week?

I didn't expect Venus to get the cover. Now if she completes the career Grand Slam, then she might.

Good Luck In 2012 To The Following:
Venus Williams
Serena Williams
Vania King, Sloane Stephens
Michael Joseph Jackson|1958-2009|RIP King of Music

Whitney Elizabeth Houston|1963-2012|RIP Queen of Music

Nothing against Sharky, but I think if she'd won, they'd have put her on the cover (even if they did last year). Yes, blacks get the cover a lot... in "black" sports, like basketball. Yes, they put Serena in the swimsuit issue last year... but the ethnic mix there is nearly as white as that of the WTA. (Except for mixed race Tyra Banks, who's really light skinned).

not surprising....I think they had her planned for awhile and they didn't expect the Women to steal the show at Wimbledon this year.

btw, the pic is fugly...she's a cute girl but bad pic.

I'm not so sure about that. She won the Y/E championships and they didn't rush to put her on the cover, but I think she would have goten more consideration than Venus got.

BTW, I didn't know Tyra was of mixed race.

I think Joy (who now posts as joie, used to as bajangurl) said that a year or two ago here re. Tyra. BTW, whatever her parentage, you don't think a dark skinned black woman identical to her in every other respect would get the play she does on SI, do you? (They'd probably give her directions to Jet Magazine's office).

Where were the type of sponsors like camera and cellphone companies for the W/S, even when they were winning most of the Slams a few years ago? (Its biased not to think they have appeal only to blacks. And IC black kids with cellphones all the time, anyway).

Fact is, tennis players very rarely make the SI cover. Even Sampras rarely made it on there, despite all the records he broke. Tennis is a very small deal in the US sports world, unfortunately.

But softball is even a smaller sport than tennis.

You don't think that if a certain skank had won the several Slams that were widely projected for her a decade ago, she'd have been all ova their cover (@ least for Wimby & USO titles) probably every single time?

There's a 50,000 watt radio station in California calling itself "KHTKournikova"
I'd bet Anna would sell more SI's than Finch will.

But Roger & Venus deserve this cover. 3 Wimby's each.

who is Jenny Finch?

"I told her, `You don't want to get into a hitting battle with Sharapova, because it would be uneven for Sharapova, because Sharapova only has one good side and that's her backhand,"'. "`You don't want to get into that for the simple reason you would win. So try to hit some balls to her strong side, to her backhand, and that would help you with your match for tomorrow

Sir Richard Williams
