Who want to come back to the old format for the masters?

A list of 16 players was great but now it's only 8 women who can go to the masters!!!

16 women..
It would give someone who deserves to be in the championships, who's ranking is lower, a chacne to do some damage.

I second that! Imagine that Venus Williams v injury-free Lindsay Davenport

Inspiration is for amateurs

I like the round robin elimination format they have now. This produces a formidile final four that then play semis and the final in the normal single elimination format.

Not in New York. I find it absolutely ridiculous that this event should be held in one city every year. Rotation gives more people the chance to see these unique championships.

8 and a Round Robin is better.

It makes for a more interesting and exciting tournament.

Back in the days of 16 players, the event was a bore and was getting lower and lower interest. It was just like a well attended Tier 1 or 2 event. The first rounds were a predictable bore. And there was nothing to separate it in style from any other WTA event.

The Round Robin format brings the elite players together, creates interest in the run-up to the event, as to who is or is not going to qualify, and allows a much bigger selection of players to meet each other, who might never do normally. I also like the fact that its not just one loss and you're out of there until the latter rounds.

The RR makes the YEC different - and it needs that.

Sabine Lisicki, Maria Sharapova, Elena Dementieva,

Victoria Azarenka, Dinara Safina, Maria Kirilenko

Nadia Petrova, Samantha Stosur, Ana Ivanovic.

Was it. I didn't start following tennis until the 80's, when Gaby came along, and it was 16. Were the finals in the 70's b/5 as well?

Exactly. If Justine & Serena could be in the same group, that would be like the only chance of them playing each other.
