Venus vs. Davenport

Which career is better?

Consider:
Davenport has a huge lead in weeks at #1; and has about 20 (she has about 50, Venus has 31) more career titles

BUT

Venus has 2 more majors.

It's close, I think...but edge to Venus.

it is not even close, it is all about the majors just as maria's career is now better than both amelie's and kim's despite their having more titles and having made no.1

Rena- a tennis great! 22 at striking distance.

It was close when Venus only had 4 majors. But with this recent Wimbledon win, definitely Venus.

Oh and by the way, Venus has 33 titles and Lindsay has 47.

It only can be lindsay.
Since 98 she is always one of the best. 3 times year-end no 1. Nearly at every slam she reached qf.
5 majors are great, but that's not all

It's very tough to say. Lindsay has been nr.1 for a long time now and has been the consistent top player for some time, she also edges the H2H with Venus, but Venus has won most of the important meetings in Wimby 2000/2005 and Us Open 2000.
I'm going with Venus on this one since slams are more important IMO than the top ranking.

Venus has crammed more things into a shorter time span. Along with 5 slams, she was in 11 slam finals....and 4 in a row.

Really, don't even look at me...

It is definitely Venus.

It's such a shame. One more point on Saturday would have given Davenport a lead in almost everything Hopefully things will square up against after the end of this year

Women's tennis sucks.

i do not agree with this. Just because Sharapova won 1 slam she have a better career then Clijsters ?

Just look to the stats

Clijsters-Sharapova

Slams won: 0-1
Slam Finals: 4-1
Wta Titles: 24-10
Double Titles: 11-3
Grand Slam Doubles: 3-0 (1 mixed doubles)
Highest position on the ranking: 1-2
Season-ending Championships: 2-1

Ok , she never won a slam in singles so ever, but i'm sure she gonna win some slams in the future.

Venus hands down.. Davenport can go keep #1 all she wants but Venus just had a better career. Both will make the hall of fame but more people would remember Venus 1st over davenport.

"I told her, `You don't want to get into a hitting battle with Sharapova, because it would be uneven for Sharapova, because Sharapova only has one good side and that's her backhand,"'. "`You don't want to get into that for the simple reason you would win. So try to hit some balls to her strong side, to her backhand, and that would help you with your match for tomorrow

Sir Richard Williams

In general, critics will say Venus has a better career because of the slams. But its not like all those tier I and tier II aren't important. Weeks at nr.1 and all those other titles do account for something. Lindsay has been incredibly consistent for years as well so to me personally Lindsay has the edge.
