I have a theory about why upsets happen on Court 2. To begin with, I
believe most top players are used to playing on the big showcourts, where
there's more space and less distractions--on the smaller courts, the spec-
tators are much closer and noisier. And secondly, lower ranked players are
used to playing on Court 16. They feel more comfortable on a smaller court.
They're often intimidated by Centre Court or Court One--it's very rare, es-
pecially on the women's side, that a low(er) ranked player upsets a high
ranked player on a show court. Serena had a bad break when all the matches
ran long on Centre today. I truly believe she would have won this match--or
at the least tied it at one set all--if she hadn't been moved to Court 2.
Anybody else agree??
