Yeah, how do you do that?
I guess being beaten by a lower seed is an upset but that is somewhat flawed strategy.

Upset means being beaten by anyone with a rank lower than you.

That's really not fair for Lindsay then.

Sugiyama, Sprem, Myskina, and Zvonareva = Slumping in 2005

I'm surprised to see Asagoe up there though....probably because she's terrible on clay.

There should be some weight attached to upsets of lower-ranked players-- anytime the #1 player loses, it's technically an upset, whereas a player ranked on the outskirts of the Top 100 has a larger range of "acceptable" losses (as many as 99).

"If you practice for ten years, you may begin to please yourself, after 20 years you may become a performer and please the audience, after 30 years you may please even your guru, but you must practice for many more years before you finally become a true artist—then you may please even God." --Ali Akbar Khan, 1922-2009

Ideally yes, but I am not willing to put in the work to devise this system.

Not really. Lindsay is number one so obviously all her loses are to players ranked lower than her. The same for Sharapova excluding her one lost to Lindsay. Venus hasn't beaten anyone ranked higher than her excluding Serena and Myskina in 18 months. Her loses to people ranked outside of the top 10 is not typical for someone of her stature. Lindsay has lost to Serena, Sharapova, Clijsters twice. I'm guessing he hasn't counted Lindsay's default to Justine as a lost.

Not suggesting you should. Perhaps a grain of salt, then, for the top players.

Actually she only lost to Clijsters once but also Pierce once. Technically, the Henin-Hardenne match should count, too. That'd be 5 "upsets" for Davenport, then.
