Predict The 3rd Round!

Now that we've seen 2 full rounds of play, how do you think the third round and the rest of the tournament will unfold?

Third Round:

Davenport def. Safina - 2 sets
Clijsters def. Vinci - 2 sets
Maleeva def. Serra Zanetti - 2 sets
Vaidisova def. Kuznetsova - 3 sets

Mauresmo def. Perry - 2 sets
Farina Elia def. Likhovtseva - 3 very close sets
Jankovic def. Myskina - 2 sets
Dementieva def. Washington - 3 sets

Danilidou def. Pennetta - 2 sets
Ivanovic def. Pierce - 2 sets
Venus def. Hantuchova - 3 sets
Serena def. Craybas - 2 sets

Petrova def. Black - 2 sets
Martinez def. Peschke - 3 sets
Dechy def. Bondarenko - 3 sets
Sharapova def. Srebotnik - 2 sets

Now fast forward to the quarters:

Davenport def. Vaidisova
Mauresmo def. Jankovic
Ivanovic def. Serena
Sharapova def. Martinez

Now fast forward to the final:

Davenport def. Sharapova

Seems possible to me...Davenport's toughest match will be against Clijsters. She'll get very lucky to face a nervous Vaidisova and a choking Mauresmo. Sharapova will just not be at her best having to defend her championship.

I really think that the 4th round of clijsters and lindsay is the small final

Venus and serena aren't at their best and Maria lost to Kim and Lindsay the last time without any chances

Interesting, really!

I think Mauresmo might have an etch over Davenport (considering form and injuries). And I think that Ana might choke on Serena (give her one more year of experience). If Maria keeps it up, she'll might advance (again) over Serena. Final would be Momo against Serena. And THAT would be interesting as well. No predictions from me over that. Just keep the ball 'ova the net'

And the darkhorse certainly is Kim!

Sveta/Nicole is the one 3rd round pick I was unsure about. Neither player is playing well enough to make the semis IMO....it all depends on how ready Nicole is to beat a player like that on a big stage.

Ivanovic should beat Pierce...I'm not sure how a Pierce fan could be so sure she'll win it. It's Pierce's worst surface and maybe Ivanovic's best...her fast serves today are a sign to me that she's dangerous. Now beating Serena is another story. I feel like Serena will get more dangerous as she makes her way into the tourney. Serena doesn't lose early (as in before the semis) in slams unless it's to Capriati. If Serena is playing the level she's been at in her first two rounds, Ivanovic will win. It depends on Serena I think.

Finally, Mauresmo-Davenport. I feel like this is Lindsay's tournament. You can tell she just "feels" it at Wimbledon this year. With that said, I can't see her beating Kim-Sveta-Mauresmo, and then Sharapova/Serena in the final. It's just too many top players in a row. So, I do feel Sveta will go out early. And Mauresmo will have faced too easy of a draw...she won't be ready to deal with Davenport. Oh, and Davenport has an 11-3 career edge over Mauresmo.
