Thumbs down French Tennis President Christian Bimes "disappointed" by Mauresmo at RG

This was in Jon Wertheim's column today :

Quote:
41. The best press conference last week came not from a player but from Christian Bimes, head of the French Federation. In a de facto State of the Union address, Bimes -- how to put this?-- julienned few words.

Assessing the play of the French players, he noted, "I would like to end by saying that we were disappointed by what Amelie Mauresmo did because, once again, she was not able to face the pressure." (We're waiting for the day a USTA executive makes that kind of a harsh assessment about, say, Mardy Fish.)
Amelie didn't handle the pressure too well as we know. I wonder if she ever will be able to hold it together and win a Slam. However I think Bimes coming out and singling Amelie out for criticism is harsh. Amelie became the first French woman to reach number 1 and she's just about always (I think she pulled out of the Fed Cup final last year) made herself available for Fed Cup and Olympics. Of course they want to see her do well at RG because she is French but she is out there playing for herself, she is not out there playing for the Federation. Amelie has every right to be disappointed but for Bimes to come out and say the Federation are disappointed in her for not living up to their expectations is not fair on Amelie. He should have kept that private.

If he is that disappointed in her I wonder how he would feel if Amelie said she wouldn't play Fed Cup then if she's considered such a disappointment. I am sure he would realise then she is the team's biggest asset.

Now we know WHY she feels so much pressure! That's awful of him to say that in public.

First of all, I'd like to see Christian Bimes' statements myself... Many times reporters take sentences out of their context and create big issues out of nothing. IF he really said that, it's not really nice of him. Amélie deserves his personnal and professional respect... IF he said that, then he showed BIG disrespect for her, both as a person and as a player...

Merci Amélie!

I'm shoked. It's not his role to say that !! And we know he doesn't like Amelie's friends: Forget and Noah.

What an asshole! Amelie should defect somewhere and then win it.

Doesn't he? Could you tell us more about it? I mean both Noah and Forget have been successful coaching the French for Davis Cup or Fed Cup finals, haven't they? So how can he have a beef with them? That said, if he really put it like that, I mean if his statement hasn't been altered or taken out of context, then the guy obviously has a problem. This is totally out of place.

Bingo. Politics.

And he's a complete fucking dickhead. (maybe if she felt more support and less pressure? obtuse little paper jockey)

That was totally uncalled for. It's as if he's taking this loss personally. I'm not a fan of Amelie's, but she doesn't deserve such a callous statement. She's still an elite player and has a damn good game. Instead of making such statement, maybe Mr. Bimes should invest all of his time and effort in fashioning the best French players that he can find. THEN maybe he can make such statements. What a bum!

He's a twat . I never liked him . Who are the ones to put pressure on Amélie's arms ? This kind of ppl and their high expectations on her...

Conchita MARTINEZ-Mary PIERCE-Lindsay DAVENPORT-Martina HINGIS-Serena WILLIAMS- and new legend Monica PUIG
Kata Srebotnik - Anabel Medina-Garrigues - Arantxa Parra-Santonja
Garbiñe Muguruza- Caroline Garcia- Polona Hercog- Kimiko DK - Eleni Daniilidou ...
