Carillo confirms, Mary Pierce, was the first female player to play big babe tennis

Carillo confirmed during the French final that she coined the phrase "Big babe tennis" after watchin Mary Pierce in 94.

Not Martina Nav.
NOt STEFFI GRAF
Not Monica
NOt Jennifer

Mary Pierce, founding member of big babe tennis. didn't help her one bit in the final though phew.....

"And for the best of the teen-agers who followed her, and who occasionally referred to her as over the hill, Graf had a ready answer: against top-ranked Martina Hingis, Graf wound up 7-2. Graf's stirring 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 throttling of Hingis at the French Open final this June was perhaps the most emphatic parting shot the game has ever seen. "

I think she knows quite a bit about tennis, and even more about the phrases she's coined. That's why they pay her the big bucks and we hack away at our keyboards on a msg. board for free.

I think we all know that it should be Monica Seles instead of Mary Pierce...

Considering the fact that Mary Carillo coined the phrase and everything, she is more than qualified to determine this, despite the rejections of some in this thread.

If it should have been Seles, it would have been Seles... but Mary C did say that Mary P was the one that inspired her "Big Babe" phrase.

Oh ok all except the woman who coined the phrase yea that makes sense..
Have you ever seen Monica play prior to 95? She didn't hit every stroke hard and flat, in fact she played quite a few loopers and even moonballs, she wasn't even a big babe, she was a skinny girl with hefty groundies, but she didn't just hit everything hard ala, Mary Pierce , LIndsay Davenport, Serena Williams et al

Clay court "age" is over...who's "age" will it be for the grass, hardcourt and indoor season?

Justine's boobs are at least bigger than Navratilova's...

Surely Martina was the first Big Babe since she was the first to do training off-court.

I would have to agree. BIG babe tennis was all Mary if you take the name literally. I guess after Monica gained some weight she qualified, same with Jen.

Even Navratilova wasnt the first power player.. It was Court who introduced power Tennis. But yes the term Big Babe was first used for Mary Pierce.
