An Observation : Venus & Serena's Game Today VS 2001-2003...

Looking back to the games of 2001 -2003, the most glaring difference in Venus's game now is not her forehand or her second serve but rather her speed and footwork. She has slowed down. Venus use to play like Nadal did today, making the extra effort to get to every single ball. Her speed gave her ample racket preparation time. She would use her speed to tract down every ball, get to the ball in time to make sure that even with the bad forehand she had ample time to set it up for a good enough shot. The same is true for Serena. She was much faster around the court. Now it seem they both are getting to the balls slower. This makes it that much harder for them to react. Now becasue they are slower the shot choices are a little suspect.

With Serena it is so strange......the forehand clearly is her weakest short but then again it is her best shot too. Look at the Oz open match against Maria...it was her forehand who was doing the most damage, some of them Maria didnīt even see the ball coming back.

With Venus you donīt see that..the forehand is just a weakness.

Always bet on black!

Honestly, there are a combination of things that have made Venus' game go down. But it all comes down to her head.

Really, don't even look at me...

Serena's forehand isn't as bad as people try to make it out to be. She hits A LOT of winners with it. Venus' forehand is just

Really, don't even look at me...

Like I've said before, they're not hungry anymore. When they were teens and Hingis was still dominating. They were hungry. They had that hungry look in the eyes. Now, it's gone. They're famous, they have their endorsements and they have proven themselves with GS wins.

I just wish they (especially Venus) aspire to win as much as say Graf? And say, no this isn't enough.

??? i donīt see a prob with REna forehand. she misses some balls with it but thats cuz she is always trying to make a winner with it and i donīt think that a player will get in court to play Rena will think "go for the forehand".

They don't hit the ball as hard it seems. They still hit hard but I saw some clips of multiple matches and they hit some huge winners which they dont do as much.

I still believe Venus and Serena are still hungry for wins! I can just see Serena winning just so she can relish the win. Venus more so becasue of all the naysayers who are always harping on her "decline". The girls both still have something to prove to themselves AND THEY WILL. I also think that Richard could be the great motivator for them again instead of wishing for their retirement.

Serena just needs to get her muscle back then regain the muscle memory on her shots. Also getting in better shape will allow her to hit the ball instead of trying to power it. Before she never had to hit serves above 120, but now she tries to hit them alot and that's just not her game on serve, she should get back to using her superior placement along with 110+ serves. Venus needs to again shorten the swings and delivery of her forehand and serves. She's done it before and her FH and serve has been consistenly great, but for some reason she's not doing it now.

Venus has this BIG smile on her face when she loses.

Though I do think there's a lack of her showing hunger, I assure you she's only smiling so she doesn't get trashed in the media.

The main difference is the INTENT behind each and every single shot in a rally.

I was watching the 03 oz final and clips from the 03 Wimbledon today and that is the main difference i think.
SERENA
-used to be alot more calm and focused on the court. Would move on easy after mistakes or blown opportunities.
-MUCH better footwork than now. She used to be really on balance and position which enabled her to go for her shots and make them. Now she looks really awckward and out of balance at times, which makes her spray alot more balls and results in errors.
-Decisivness. Rena used to be really sure what she wanted to do with each and every shot, specially her serve, she knew exactly which type of serve she wanted and where she wanted it to be placed. This was even more prominent on the 2nd serve.

VENUS
-more mental than anything.
-she used to play the big points alot better, now she often squanders break points or leads, before she used to convert her opportunities.
-technically, her forehand is still a bit jerky, we know she works on it, and at times its brilliant in matches, but i think her problem is her racquet face is too open when she takes it back, which makes it harder to generate topspin on her shots, and results in tons of balls flying out....by alot.
