the player we really need to spice things up a little again is...

...Jennifer Capriati.

I watched the final on the BBC and Virginia Wade mentioned that Henin-Capriati match last year, how it was the best match ever. I started thinking and realised that quite a few really exciting matches in the past involved Jennifer Capriati.

Everything you do continues long after you've gone

It's true. Serena/Martina AO 2001, Henin/Capriati USO 2003, are far and away the greatest matches of this millenium. And the Capster has been involved in many other classics with Serena, Hingis, Kimmy, and Monica... she's entertaining, that's for sure! Powerful, fiesty, quick, with lots of attitude... she's never been one of my favorites, but I sure would like to see her back on the court, whipping up on pretenders like Petrova and Kuznetsova!

Very true. Have to add Vee/Hingis in there too. But I hve missed Jen, her matches are nearly always entertaining. She has played a part in many classic matches.

Yep. Hope she returns soon in full battle mode. A terrific fighter, and a spicy character missing from the tour.

I agree! She's such a warrior! And yet I ALWAYS root against her!

But I hate it when she isn't around. She's not the most articulate girl; her level of self-awareness seems to be very low; but her intense personality bursts out all over when she's on the court. Jennifer vs Serena; Jennifer vs Justine: these have been by far my favorite match-ups in recent years.

Come back, Jen! Battle, curse, and fight your way back to the top group! (Then I will no doubt root against you again, but that's fun!)

Problem is that match was two year ago.

I don't think we will see JenCap in the top10 again.

The Enna-Capriati USO 03 semi-final was good quality (not great; more UEs than winners) and extremely exciting. But "the best match ever"? Since when does the BBC allow commentators to be stoned during a TV show?

She needs to be back, and I used to hate her quite a bit.

I agree. She's neither been a fave of mine, but when you look at what she's achieved, you have to acknowledge that she has the ability to seriously challenge any top player on any given day. And what's really great about her, is that she's esp mentally strong, like she always performs the best at the biggest stages (eg still consistently making Slam semi's while doing nothing really special over the year (2004)). I hope she comes back soon and esp hungry, when healthy she's definitely still top-10 or even top-5 material.

I miss jen so much she has the ability to bring the best out of her opponents and she is always involved in the best matches of the year. Personally i do think the jenny justine uo semi was the greatest match ever although woudlve been better if jen had won.Jen is always involved in exciting matches and theres been far too many too name over the years i just hope she'll come back the same because the tour has gone slightly dull without the jen vs serena q/f's.

Miss you JENNY and GUGA

That semi at the US Open 2003 was just crazy, esp. at the beginning when Jen was completely fired up. I loved that outfit with the stars and stripes.
But somehow she could not keep that energy level up.

2000-2007: My "Kim years". My best years as a tennis fan. A few bitter losses but a lot of great matches and great wins. Thank you, Kim Clijsters!
