Talking I'd like to see it!

Wouldn't it be fun to see a great young female player come along who would bounce up and down like Rafa does at the net during the coin toss; who would leap in the air the way he does, fling herself around, and zoom over to her chair like she's on fire!

I mean, I don't really wish for a Rafa-copycat girl ; that would be ridiculous. I really just mean one whose energy would explode from her the way Rafa's does, yet whose verve would be totally under control during the points. And a girl totally without nerves on the big occasions!

It could happen someday! I will root for this girl!

Errr, NO. Women's tennis is far too sensitive for that. The poor girl would be labeled as an "arrogant ****" by all the commentators and wtaworld posters. People have negative crap to say about Justine's "allez" and Maria's loud grunts and fist pumps. Sure, your idea's exciting, but, face it....women's tennis just isn't ready for that sort of thing.

Dammitt, Venus!!!

ewww! No, that is NOT the kind of kid I had in mind -- Maria's too smooth, too bland, too marketed. I'm thinking more a sort of young, enthusiastic and happy, super-charged Arantxa-type.

Well, that's a good point. What was I thinking! Even Arantxa's bounciness had its critics.

But I wish it could happen ...

Hey, we can dream. It takes a whole lot to revolutionize women's tennis. They'll come around soon enough.

I must say I like Pierce her on court and off court presence a whole lot better than Maria's. Then again, the girl is only 18. Can't blame her for it!

With the personality I have in mind, a Mediterranean sort would work -- a naturally passionate Italian or Spanish girl, an Albanian, a Mallorcan , a Syrian, even a girl from the south of France ...

But a blond Russian? An Anglo-Saxon? No, very doubtful the raw material is there.

Among WTA players, the one that's closest to your description would be Capriati. I always enjoy watching her play but she is not universally loved precisely because of her on-court demeanor.

... like knowing a ball was in by half a meter and pretending she didn't see a thing...
