Mutual Respect between two FO finalists before the Final- SIGN OF GREATNESS.

Pierce: "Justine's had some tough things in her life," Pierce said. "I'm pleased to see her in the final.

"Look at what Justine has been through, you know. She's awesome."

Justine: "I think she's in great shape right now. And mentally she's very strong because she loves to play here at the French Open. She won it a few years ago, so she has a great motivation to go to the final and then try to win this tournament. So it's going to be a tough mission for myself if it's Mary, because it's not quite sure yet."

Nice comments from both players, I respect them for that. It truly is a 'sign of greatness'. Congrats JHH and Mahree.

On another note..."EVERY 5 YEARS!", "EVERY 5 YEARS!"

Yeah, that's nice to see. I'd rather see mutual sisterhood, but I'll settle for respect .

yes i was going to post mary's comments about justine because

1) they were probably the nicest things i have heard anyone say about her (at least a well known player)

2) Mary's has been given flack for her antics on court but people seem to forget what a lovely person she is in the process.

Yeah but the pattern of every five years for Mary, this year she should win Wimbledon not Roland Garros

Heh, excellent point. And in 2010, she should win the US Open!

Except that Pierce has never made it even as far as the quarters at Wimbledon, and I doubt that she's going to go all the way for the first time at the age of 30, pattern or no pattern.

Best left-right combination by a German (and that includes Max Schmeling): Steffi Graf. All she did in 1987 was knock Navratilova out of #1 and try to knock Evert out of the sport. (Mike Lupica in "The Best and Worst of Tennis in 1987", World Tennis)

"A couple of years ago, we nicknamed Steffi Graf's forehand 'Jaws'. And that music would go perfectly when she starts running in to the net, swarming on that little ball." (JoAnne Russell, during the 1988 Wimbledon final between Graf and Navratilova)

Mary's ill success at Wimbledon is a bit of a mystery. Grass would actually seem to suit her game.

Le Poussin! Faithfully ignoring the haters since 1995.

Le Poulailler de Poussin! (Simontarded.)

That's what I was thinking. But, she hasn't been able to get past that dynasty called Williams.
