Which one will do better in 2002 - Capriati or Davenport?
This should be close. Lindsay officially ranked numero uno or the former #1 and current #2 player, Cappy.
A media concensus seems to believe that Capriatti will not be able to duplicate the 2001 feat of playing in 3 GS titles and winning 2 of them in the process. Lindsay is always Miss Consistent and it would appear that she would have the better year of these 2 players.

Jennifer is in even better shape than last year and anxious to prove it wasn't a one-year thing. Lindsay is battling a chronic knee injury that has already taken her out for months last year and hampered her off-season preparations. It sounds like it might mean surgery in the near future. Plus, LD is loopy in love with her man who doesn't drop his life and travel with her, so I'd say her days as a single woman are waning. I'd place my money on Jen.
My vote goes to Lindsay. Once her injury is healed, if it isn't already, then there are only two people IMO who can consistently stop her from getting to the semis or finals of a tournament. Lindsay has been consistent year in and year out. She's been ranked in the top 5 for the past 5 years, top ten for the past 6. Jennifer on the other hand hadn't been ranked in the top ten since 1993, and before this year never had she been in the top 5. I'm not saying that she's going to completely fall out of the top 10, but until she can sustain dominance and consistency like Lindsay then I can't put her in the same sentence yet.
It is best to keep your mouth shut and be presumed ignorant. Then to open it and remove all doubt.
Did I call that injury thing on LD or what? I hate to be right on this one...I thought for once we would have all the girls healthy and competing at a slam.
I don't get people saying Lindsay is just a better player, period. Lindsay has been at the top of her game for about three to four years...building on her experience. Jennifer is only a year into playing up to her potential. I readily acknowledge that it's her fault she hasn't reached her potential until now, but I honestly don't think we've seen the best from her. She was scary good last year at the Oz and through the first part of the year. I don't know about her fitness, but SHE says she is in better condition than last year. The pictures I have seen look pretty good.
As far as Lindsay vs. Jen as a player, Lindsay has the serve up and down and all around over Jen. That's her major weakness. Jen has WAY better court coverage and I think her forehand is better. They both have killer backhands. Anyways, I see no need to have an either/or about them because they're both great players and I hope they both have a great year.
Sorry for LD fans...injuries flat out suck
