Talking Part of Me Really Wishes...

That Venus & Serena retire in the next two years.

Richard is right. These two ladies are far too talented and intelligent to be spending the best of their years on the tennis court.

They've already proved that they're the best, and they've done everything there is to be done between each other...why keep dragging it on?

Of course it would be great if they could get back to #1 and #2 one more time, but it doesn't matter.

Venus and Serena just have too much class, grace, and education to be dealing with the crap they have to put up with in the Tennis World.

So I say to hell with them. Because the Tennis world needs them a hell of a lot more than they need the Tennis World.

Whatever they end up doing, I just have to say that they really are an inspiration, and that whatever endeavors they decide to pursue, I wish them the best of luck.

Venus and Serena are the best.

They are not going to ammount to anything off the court. The need tennis too because there isn't much else for them to do beside chase other dreams. they have reached one of them and made a hell of alot of money off of it i don't know why they would give it up.

Speak for yourself.

Once Serena passes Seles, then I would be happy if she retired.

so you're content with her having nine grandslams? Something that wouldn't make her the best ever in most peoples eyes. I mean Monica may have nice but she also has the stabbing as a damn good excuse if she wanted to. And what do you think they are gonna do when they are done? We have already seen that serena isn't the best actress

Monica has 9, so I would be content with Serena having 10.

Serena will never be regarded by the best ever by the tennis establishment, so even hoping that would happen would be an exercise in stupidity, on my part.

But by the time Serena retires she will have netter over $100 million, so she will have the resources to do whatever she wants for the rest of her life. As long as shes happy, I'm still gonna have her back, always.

And Venus has her interior design firm, thats doing exceptionally well BTW, so her future success is without doubt.

It's gonna be fun watching this thread spin out of control. I mean, it's focused around the sisters, so that's gonna start little arguments, and now the stabbing thing has been mentioned!

As for The sisters retiring, I hope they do it very soon and I wish them luck in whatever they attempt to do...

If the sport of tennis came to an abrupt end tomorrow. Venus and Serena are the only ones we wouldn't have to worry about!!! They are well prepared for life after tennis..socially, emotionally, physically and financially. For your info, they have already amounted to EVERYTHING off the court. Now put that in your resentful pipe and smoke it!!!!

Haha on Friday when I went to the book signing and saw Venus and Serena, it really made me think of how badly I want to become rich and famous haha. No but they really are doing great for themselves now and I am sure in the future. Now I gotta go read their book and see how I can get my way up in the rich and successful area lol.

Financially, they would be very secure if they retired from tennis even TOMORROW. However, I don't think the fame will be there anymore if they quit...Maybe Serena can excel in acting, but having an interior design firm isn't going to give Venus Williams a lot of spotlight. They'd sort of just disappear, and it wouldn't be very good for us fans We'd miss them too much.

I agree on that. Serena is not given much credit for what she does professionally off-court IMO and she's not gonna get fame outta her other careers anytime soon. I would be glad if she actually succeeds off-court but she has to dedicate her life completely to those activities giving up on tennis which really is the main marketing she has to promote her other careers. So I wouldn't say she doesn't need the Tennis World. Venus does it too, especially since her career off-court is much less "glamorous" (though so much more exciting than Serena's - regarding fashion).

I also don't want them to retire within the next five years (or maybe more!). I believe it will happen in the mean time, but I don't want to so leave it at that for now and it's up to them to decide. I think they can achieve so much more, even Venus!

Who were they before they played tennis???

Too much education??? Some of us who have graduate degree's, not diploma's, might argue that point. But, as any world-class athlete, there's a certain amount of "crap" one must deal with in any professional sport, not just tennis. What I find odd is celebrities/sports figures use the media, etc. to gain a level of success, then once they achieve that, act as though they've made their lives hell. Cliche' be darned, you can't have your cake and eat it too. Its the price you pay for fame.

If it weren't for the sport of tennis, Venus and Serena would not likely be the people you know as "Venus and Serena".

In the history of tennis, no one or two persons have ever been larger than the game. The sport of tennis always "wins".

There is a new generation of younger, stronger, tennis players who are capitvating a world-wide audience, while both sisters are playing. In essence, they are being overshadowed at the current time (just my opinion).

With their games in decline and frail bodies, I don't think anyone would be overly shocked that they would retire. Venus, number one for 12 weeks, 4 singles slams and Serena 52-weeks and 7 slams (I think???), haven't historically approached the true greats of tennis.

The most disturbing part of this is that two women, who once had the potential of dominating the game for years, threw it all away for fame, "outside interests", tournament withdrawls, and poor coaching. Unrealized and untapped potential is what is tragic in this case.

Historically, I have tons more respect for players like Navratilova who gave up her endorsement potential by "coming out". She stayed true to tennis, worked hard and mid-career, turned tennis history on its heels, all well knowing she wasn't the most popular for exposing her personal life. That's called dedication to herself and the sport of tennis, in spite of the fact she wouldn't receive the monetary windfall others did.

Venus and Serena are the best.
They WERE once the best in the sport of tennis. Now, all they give their fans is mediocre results with an occasional burst of brilliance. Tragic.

However, I feel blessed that in my lifetime I witnessed some of the greatest women's tennis players to have ever played the sport, whose results left an indelible mark in sports history: Margaret Court, Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Stefanie Graf, and Pam Shriver
