Cara Black lost to #975...

... in Berlin's qualies. Even though clay is not Black's best surface, I still find it shocking especially looking at the score 4-6 1-6...

What's next?

Play only doubles?
There are of couple of things wrong with Cara's game. She just doesn't have the game to sustain with these players. She doesn't move as well as she use to and her serve is a big liability. She could easily negate that if she would play smart tennis though. She has a lot of doubles experience. Use it on the singles court. Katarina Srebotnik isn't a big hitter or a great mover but she uses what she has and uses it well. She'll come into net behind drop shots. She knows when to come into net and when not to. She knows how to use the whole court. Cara seems to have lost that court awareness somewhere. It was one of the reasons she got to a career high of 31 in 1999 in the first place.

I'm not surprised...her serve is horrid and her groundstrokes are sliced in 80% of the time.

I'm surprised that nobody around her (in such a tennis family) has so far helped her to realize that.

She can start with that forehand technique

"誰も私を止める停が出来なかったか"
- Jinpachi Mishima
- Jedah Douma
"恐れてはいけない. 私は最初であり, 最後である"

that #975 could be a future #1 in 2,3 years...with all these young talents rising lately

I can't think of a witty signature right now. I like turtles.

she might... but right now she #975 and 15.5 y.o., so no excuse for Black to lose so badly (especially to someone with 4-3 YTD win/losses record on a junior curcuit).

btw, speaking of #1 in 2-3 years, what are the chances of that happening if her highest junior ranking so far has been #92?

Her problem is.

She is tiny, and not powerfull at all, when i say not powerfull, i mean seriously not powerfull. Players like Cervanova, Tanasugarn and Sanchez-Lorenzo can dominate her off the groundies.
Cara always uses slices and angles, consistency, and net charges to win her matches... her serve is not powerfull, she is not tall, and she is very thin. Cara is a highly skilled player though... she has the experience and court awareness to be in the top 100 again.... i honestly think she simply gets overpowered.
I watched Black def. Asagoe once.... and Asagoe was attacking and painting lines, whilst Black was skillfully retreiving and slicing untill she found a short bull she would rush in behind... Also Cara has probably lost some of the footspeed.... I recall she was very speedy on the court, i am sure its simply not all there anymore.

Sabine is a very talented player. Sha has not played that many junior events but she has done well when she has played. She most likely will not be 1, 2 or 3 but top 50, i definately can see that.

she probably is - I'm not arguing either way. It's just if any talented player could play her first match and basically demolish a seasoned veteran (even though in a slump), what level of tennis do pros play?
