Serena Williams drops out of German OpenApril 29, 2005

BERLIN (AP) -- Australian Open champion Serena Williams on Friday pulled out of next week's German Open because of an ankle injury. The fourth-ranked Williams had been hoping to play in this important clay-court tuneup for next month's French Open. Fifth-ranked Elena Dementieva already had withdrawn from the German Open.

I wish Lena was still playing. Hopefully she is just resting.

Serena's ankle is apparently worse than first thought. If you noticed, she wore her tennis shoes when she visited the the D.C. Tennis and Learning Center for the 10th anniversary celebration---so unlike Serena if you asked me.

Dang, I don't like hearing about that ankle injury. It indeed is serious.

As long as she isn't short of match practice, the more rest the better. I want Lena to peak at RG, not Berlin.

Worrying for Serena, who IS short of match practice.

one week of rest is not enough when a player has exhausted herself.
