Your fave's best effort in a losing match?

Which matches has your fave lost, where they fought their guts out, but were just beaten by a better player?

2005 AO: Lindsay Davenport def Alicia Molik 6-4 4-6 9-7

Alicia couldn't have fought harder! She got rorted on a few occasions (the ace that was disallowed that would have put her 8-7 ahead) and had the whole counrty behind her, but Lindsay was just too good.

Why is it that the world never remembered the name of Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern-
kalbsfleisch-mittler-aucher von Hautkopft of Ulm?

Serena losing to Maria at the YEC. She could have retired, but gave her all to try and win the match a nearly did.

Venus losing to Serena at the AO 2003 final. Venus really fought hard and fell just short.
