Berlin Shall Fall

It would be somewhat symbolic if a Russian would win this last Tier1 tournament held in Berlin. The final will take place just the day before the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War (that's how WorldWarII is called in Russia).

How do you think, can they do it?

I can´t understand at all the poll options.... Do you think a Russian player will met a German player in the final?
Or just if a Russian will win, like 60 years ago?

Eleni Daniilidou - Iveta Benesova - Melanie Klaffner - Gisela Dulko - Daniela Hantuchova - Jelena Dokic - Karolina Sprem -

Yeap, the question is if we going to have a Russian winner here.

Cool!!
I voted "BERLIN WILL HELD" so I am saying a non-russian will be the winner

Berlin will held. If it will fall then only to Sharapova. And apparently players consider Masha more American than Russian, so will Berlin still fall?

It doesn't matter who considers her what, as long as she considers herself Russian. But it would be very fun as if Allied Victory plus she would grab No.1 , even more symbolic if she wins this one

Yeah I totally agree, Berlin will be held and I dont see any Russian winning Berlin. Est ist traurig! But its the truth, they all are too inconsistent, actually I always forget about Sharapova, shes russian too, maybe she can win it, but its not a guarantee, clay isnt her best surface and unless either of the Belgians doesnt show up I dont see Sharapova as a guarantee winner. The russians are just too inconsistent, Dementieva is rather consistently good but for some unapparent reason always loses when playing a final of a tier 1 or better, even when playing relatively well. Kutznetsova has she ever had a match where she didnt make more than 30 unforced errors? Myskina is in a slump and I dont think clay is her best surface despite her winning roland garros last year, Indoors is actually her best surface if you look at her overalll results and it's where she's pushed the players ranked in the upper echelons in the rankings the most.

Berlin will held. France (Mauresmo) and its ally Belgium (Henin-Hardenne and Clijsters) won't let Berlin fall at all.

Random Fan: get over it, get a life, and remember, no one playing professional tennis was there then. And we now have a thing call Europe. By the way, do you wish to discuss Russian atrocities? I will if you want. And, if Russia is so wonderful, how come so many of you are now living in London? And Germany, and anywhere else they can get in!

I don´t get this thread...?!? Why would a russian have to win it? Why not an American or a Brit or a french or a "put in a country who helped defeating Germany"...this is too stupid.

Because Berlin fell to Soviet (mainly Russian) troops and there is big difference between who helped and who did all the dirty job. And this difference is 20 mil of lives. know your history silly one
