I think we can say the same about other players too: when she or she or she plays her top game, she's unbeatable... It's just a matter of playing your top game as much as possible

What a great match to measure that from.

Women's tennis sucks.

There's something to be said about the players who can tap into their own personal best and do well when it counts the most. It's all about peaking at just the right time and elevating your game, your fight, and your belief in yourself to get the job done on the biggest stage their is in tennis, the slams. IMO, Serena is that best at doing that, beating her during the other tournaments is never easy, but beating her at a slam is a worthy feat! A player that can get in the "zone" during the Slams is a multiple slam winner, guaranteed! That last set @ AO was Serena, peaking at just the right time- that's what champs do...

JCap was good at bringing out her best ball during the slams, especially considering she won so few other tournaments. I'm still not sure I would include her in this discussion only because of her problems with clossing out her SF matches at the US Open. Major props to Maria and Justine for being equally fierce competitors during the majors.

STEFWHIT'S HALL OF FAME
Greatest Singles Player of All Time: Steffi Graf
Simply the BEST: Serena Williams [Proud MEMBER OF RENA'S ARMY]
The REAL GOAT Rafael Nadal
Future Inductees: Clijsters, C.Evert, A.Agassi, A.Berasategui, N. Zvereva, I.Majoli, M.Safin, Li Na, VIKA, and Del Potro

Serena was amzing in that final set, it was like watching a set of her old form. However Lindsay just panicked because Serena did not let up at all.

Actually Serena at the US Open 2002 was the best display of Serena's top level. She was unbeatable not dropping a set in all 7 matches.

I agree with you about Capriati. I still remember how she could not close Justine out at the US Open having so many opportunities. Then the US Open semis was unbelivable, the capster was basically handed her qtr against Serena and she could not defeat Dementieva.

I kind of agree. People talk about how Lindsay tanked so bad and this is true.

But she opened the door for Serena and she came roaring through, if Lindsay would have played her best tennis in the third Serena still would have won.

Even if LD regained her composure at the beginning of the last set, it wouldn't have mattered, Serena was a "focused demon" as she said and there was no stopping her at that point especially someone who lacks the movement and fight like Lindsay. She may not have bagelled her, but it would probably have been 6-1.

I think when Lindsay smashed her racket after being broken in the second the match ended, certainly after she was broken once... the match was over. She didn't run for balls she was running for and she really wasn't going for her serve... it was so horrible.

Lindsay Davenport

Elena Bovina | Anastasia Myskina | Flavia Pennetta
Fernando Verdasco | Tommy Haas

Q. Give us an update on the kid.
A. Are you serious?

That's true also but Serena is just fierce when she's on that tennis court and really want that title it's like she's in a different world, like she has transform herself into something else.

It's great to see that Serena can beat Lindsay when she's at the top of the game pretty easily. Definitely, in that opening set Serena was not physically strong, and Lindsay was mentally strong. But, after that, Serena was the better person physically and mentally.

♥.i only have eyes for serena.♥
