This is all well and good until one remembers that Serena and Lindsay have both retired from two tournaments with injuries/illness. With those points and tournaments taken off their records, Serena is clearly number one (1470/3=490 points per tourney) and Lindsay is number three (1846/5=369.2 points per tourney). Don't know if this really means anything or not, but it shows that average tournament scores can be skewed very easily with a retirement or two.

Matt

Get well soon Lindsay!!!!

The Belgians are back!

2000-2007: My "Kim years". My best years as a tennis fan. A few bitter losses but a lot of great matches and great wins. Thank you, Kim Clijsters!
26.03.2009: More Kim years to come!

So true. It wasn't like Lindsay was really going to beat Justine on clay.

Of course if you average 2/3 tournies they are going to have more points simple statistics ... not to say they arent kicking ass but u cant compare 2 tournments to 9 ... it doesnt yield reliable results.

Team Williams
Princess of Power: Serena Williams
21 time grand slam champion, Tours best fighter, Olympic Champion
Queen of Grass: Venus Williams
7 time grand slam champion, Olympic Champion,
The Tour Standard! .... still haha!

wrong. If you don't count those tournaments, obviously you don't count the points aquired at them . Serena's average would become distorted because she would have played just two tournaments (Miami and the Oz Open,) and Oz awards a lot of points. She'd have an average of like 662, but clearly she has had a sucky year in comparison to the Belgians and Sharapova.

Davenport's average works out to 300.8 with Charleston not included.

If she had continued to play as in the first set, she would have beaten Justine. Henin was not herself in that match (hasn't reached her old form quite yet.)

Well, Justine began very strong in the first set, she collapsed after the injury break. For some reason, Justine seems to have a hard time playing against an opponent who's injured, but not injured enough to retire...
